One of my friends lived in Bangor for a few years, and we went through a bit of a heath kick for a few months and resolved to go swimming every Saturday morning, and this is where we used to come, as it was within walking distance of her house(walking there was another part of the health kick!) They have a 25 metre pool with seperate pool for children, and my favourite, a diving pool with three diving boards! In addition to this, they have one large and one medium sized sports halls, a state of the art gym, sauna, and sunbed suiet, if you fancy frying yourself to get that, erm, golden glow. Just off the main hall they also have a lounge and cafeteria area, which serves a good range of food, although unfortunately nonw of it was terribly healthy, which was sometimes a bit of a temptation!

This is another place that I hold a lot of affection for, this mainly comes down to the days when swimming was one of my favourite activities. I used to go here at least once a week and I developed a bit of a routine, I think I may have been addicted to the chlorine in the pool. The pool itself is very family friendly, they have a baby pool which was always unnervingly warm, I was always told that this was because the kiddies liked to tinkle in it but this was probably just a myth. It is only about 40 centimetres deep so is perfect for first time swimmers and would be great to teach the little ones. They also have a medium pool, I stayed a way for this one as it was always very crowed and then they have the big pool or the daddy pool as we called it. This is an Olympic swimming pool and it often hosts gala’s and usually has two lanes open for serious swimmers. You know you have made it when you get to this pool. They also have diving boards and great changing facilities, I always saw this place as quite a fun place to go and keep fit while enjoying yourself.

Bangor Castle looks like a large manor house and I was very impressed the first time I saw it. I’m not from the area and wanted to take my dog somewhere new for a walk. I remembered seeing the large gardens and knew I could let him off his lead. Upon driving up you pass through an open barrier and park in the town hall car park — I’m not sure I was really allowed to but there were no signs to stop me. The building itself is now a museum and town hall and is very grand and stately looking. The gardens are well maintained and quite vast. I took my dog for a long walk amongst the wooded area and some parts are reminiscent of landscapes that could be used in a film, large roots coming out of the ground and really tall vast looking trees, which are spaced in such a way that they feel even bigger. There is a clear walkway and lovely floral areas. I met many people walking their dogs off lead as well and noticed a large maintenance team in the area. I’m really glad I found this place as it I a new place for Toby to have an adventure it is large spacious and picturesque and I will definitely be back.

This place is a little bit aged and could be a bit more modern, but thats because it has been around forever and the new leisure centre is being built so there is no point in them doing up this place. It has all the amenitites that you could expect — swimming pool, five-a-side pitches and squash courts etc. It also has a really good gym that is really well priced. If you’re a student you can get unlimited access for only £20 a month over 3 months which is a much better deal than in the likes of Fitness First. There are better appointed and better staffed leisure centres in the world but I think the prices here are good and you could do an awful lot worse. It has a good car park and that you don’t have to pay for and its right in the middle of town. So you don’t have any real reason not to call in here to exercise a bit.
