Bakewell Ice Cream Parlour, set in the centre of Bakewell describes itself as ‘A genuine Italian gelateria in the heart of Bakewell’, a pretty accurate description. The ground floor of which opens out onto the street, serving as a takeaway outlet for the multitude of tempting ice creams they sell, including standard flavours like Vanilla and Chocolate, to more exotic flavours like Bakewell Pudding Flavour. On the day we visited, they were doing brisk business as the temperatures rose and the amount of people in Bakewell were the most I’ve seen in recent times. To primarily escape the crowds, we darted up to the first floor, where there is a small café with a glass floor, and a range of seating. The steps up to the first floor and then to the second floor preparation area and the toilet are made out of industrial looking pressed steel, coupled with the glass floor, it gave the whole building a unique feel. We missed the lunch menu, and it was little early for the champagne, that adorned the ground floor, we went for a cappuccino — great flavour and a mint chocolate milkshake, made from the aforementioned Frederick’s ice cream; surprisingly refreshing, a great choice on such a hot day. Other drinks on offer, included speciality coffees and teas, as well as traditional soft drinks. Two words of caution though, the stairs are steep and are the only way you can access the toilet on the second floor; and on the day we visited there was only one member of staff, who was finding it difficult to split her time between the incessant takeaway stream and the café.
