The Old Red Lion is situated in the middle of Atherstone, part way down the aptly named Long Street. There is a private car park to the rear, or you can park in next to the council buildings a short way down the road. We have never stayed here, but often come in for lunch when we are in the area. The bar area is divided into a number of rooms; two covered areas in the old building at the front, then some separate areas formed from a glazed area between two wings, rather like a conservatory. This isn’t gourmet cooking, but it is decent food at a reasonable price. The bar menu includes the items you would expect, such as jacket potatoes and chili, steaks, fish and sandwiches. There are a number of bargain offers, such as fish night, and you can also fill up on a selection of starters under the tapas option. It is certainly a popular pub; although we have never had a problem getting a table, it is usually reasonably full. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the loos always clean.
