I booked a table for my daughter for passing her exams and for her 18th birthday. We arrived and were told to find our own table that would have reserved on it. We sat down and it took them about 15 mins to come and see if we wanted a drink. At that time they took our food order. The starter took another fifteen mins before we got it and then another fifteen mins for the main course. There were people who came in after us who got served before us which I found totally unacceptable. When the food arrived finally the portions were meagre and we asked for French mustard and got English mustard and the fish with the fish and chips we ordered was more batter than fish and it was too hard to cut. Also a melon starter that we ordered came without the cutlery to eat it with. If they know they are busy they should get more staff in because there were not enough to cover a restaurant that size. The only good thing was that the views were lovely but when I am having a meal out I expect the service to be impeccable too. Will not be returning there any time in the near future.

I enjoy visiting pub restaurants operated by Vintage Inns. Always good value well cooked pub food. This was first time at the Hartshead and was not disappointed . Good location, might be difficult in snowy conditions. Good size carpark. Will visit again when I have the opportunity and will continue to call at other Vintage Inns pubs.

Ooh just thinking about the Hartshead makes me want to find someone with a car and force them to drive me there RIGHTNOW. They really are my No. 1 for good British pub food. So what if its out of the way? And you nearly always have to wait in the bar area to the left while you wait for a table? Its worth it, trust me. Once you’ve been once its the kind of place that you’ll constantly wish people would suggest, especially when they are paying. Very family orientated, the food is reasonably priced and the drinks prices are OK. From what I’ve gathered, its more of a foodie destination. I can’t imagine that many people trekking out there for a few drinks. I’ve never actually been on a day nice enough to sit outside but the views of the Pennines and surrounding towns are really stunning. If you visit, make sure you get something hearty with tons of gravy else you’ll most certainly be eyeing up everyone else’s plates before long, trust me. Plus give them a phone call a few days before as on Sundays it really is jam packed in there. And with good reason.

If you fancy a meal that’s a bit different and offers scenic views and facilities for all the family, then the Hartshead Inn should be a good stop for you. Literally on top of the hills, the restaurant overlooks Manchester and has panoramic views all around it. Right next to the building is Hartshead Pike, a famous landmark. On a warm summers day, this is the place to be in Manchester for some tranquility as well as some fantastic food and beverages. You don’t have to drink, you can have a special coffee or soft drinks and you can eat your meal outside and enjoy your peaceful surroundings. My favourite is the Caesar Salad with a glass of Rose wine. It is lovely and fresh and fills me up a treat. Look at their menu on the link for the website for more offers and early bird menus. Try it.

Nice country setting and only 10 mins from Ashton Town centre. Food is good, but on the expensive side for what you get. Run of the mill pub dinners really. Nothing over the top. Good sunday lunch. Needs a good play area for kids asthey can get bored easily once they have eatten. Waited along time in between courses.

I recently visited this restuarant for Lunch. The food was fantastic and really reasonably priced. There was a great selection on the menu and the service was excellent!!! The venue its self is beautiful, really olde world with open log fires and big plush seats. You will need a a car to get there as its a little out of the way but the trip is well worth it. The resturant also ejoys fantastic views of 3 counties !!!
