Although ASM has been in existence for a long time, it was brought to my attention by my lovely wife(then girlfriend) when we were still dating. I must admit I was very reluctant at first, to drive all the way to Ashton for a few Indian things but little did I know this would change my life for the better. Here’s where I feel the need to tell you that both, my wife and I grew up in India, albeit in different cities. So there are certain things that have been our favourites growing up that we had missed out on, in recent times. So, coming back on track, this drive to ASM, in retrospection was a journey back in time, to all those little treats that are as Indian as I am that I had all but forgotten such as Thumbs Up(the fizzy drink) Maggie(A Nestle brand of Indianised noodles and tomato chilli sauce), Good Day(all butter biscuits), Priya brand of Indian pickles, MDH, Everest and Baadshah brands of India made spices and jackfruit amongst many others. To top it all, they also stock readymade Dosa batter. They also seem to stock a variety of spices and speciality ingredients, that, if truth be told, I have not seen even in shops like Worldwide, which apparently are supposed to be authentic Indian/Asian shops. I must also mention that the people at ASM are very friendly and are always on hand to help with stuff. To round things up and summarise, ASM has been and will be our go-to place for all things Indian, made in India. Going the extra mile(or ten, in this case) has really reaped us excellent rewards!

I’ve been to ASM a couple of times now, and I like the variety of food and non food stuffs on sale. I personally buy my anti diabetic ayurvedic medicine there, because it’s cheaper than anywhere else I’ve found so far.

If you like Indian food this is the place for you. A massive range of indian foods and cooking ingredients. Big bags of spices that work out loads cheaper than the little pots in the supermarkets — massive bags of rice that will last you ages. Fresh fruit and veg(all of which is cheaper than the supermarket) including specialist produce such as fresh curry leaves or lime leaves. A wide selection of lovely breads and snacks which are worth a try — they are not all spicy so give it a go. There’s also a frozen section with things like samosas stocked. The service is helpful and friendly — and if you can’t find anything you shouldn’t be afraid to ask. Go in and spend £10 you will come out with loads!
