Pretty darn good coffee just off the main English street in Armagh city and about a five minute walk from the fabulous Market Place theatre. Service was quite good, but the staff didn’t speak English very well, so there was no opportunity to joke and gossip. They don’t do iced coffees and when I asked the waiter if he did he pointed me to the blackboard list of hot coffees. So I was a bit snappy, as I said to him so the answer is no then. On reflection this behaviour was uncalled for but I was in a bit of a mood; probably shouldn’t be allowed out in public anyway. I hadn’t realised at this point that his English was poor so he just looked at me, puzzled. I find this happens to me a lot. The waiter and waitress were attentive though and I was impressed by the speed by which they cleared tables and cleaned around the floor quickly after diners left. As well as the coffee I had a raspberry & coconut tray bake. It was tasty, chewy but it was a bit dry and dry coconut is not as pleasant as moist coconut. The portion size was generous too. Another thing free newspapers so one can have a read — a tip here there’s two things you can believe in a newspaper; the date and the price. As for the rest, please be sceptical. The café is inside a shopping centre housing a Sainsbury’s. I’m not a fan of Sainsbury’s or Tesco for that matter they are overpriced and awful places. The biggest disappointment for me was Armagh city centre itself; scruffy, a fair number of shops closed up and just a general feeling of dilapidation. The people are cheerful enough though.
