Indeed not to be confused with the rather ace pub up in town but a pretzel stand located near the front entrance of Castle Court shopping centre. Strange I thought… are pretzels gonna be the next big street food as they are in the US and parts of Europe. Having had pretzels in German a while back I was a bit disappointed to see that this was definitely a more ‘fast food’ interpretation of the snack but decided to give it a go. The stall was clean and the staff friendly and baking them fresh was a nice touch. There were both sweet and savoury options so I went for a cheese and ham and it was actually really good. And large! The damn thing was huge which is why I paid the guts of £4 for it. All in all I liked the concept and hopefully it’ll catch on. Having said that when I was there it wasn’t near lunchtime and it was pretty busy. Pros: Very tasty. Cons: Beware the ‘pretzel dog’.

Not to be confused with the ‘cool’ Auntie Annies pub, this is a little stall in the middle of the ground floor in Castle Court. Most of the stalls in the middle of this shopping centre are people with poor English trying to wash your hands and making you buy magic soap that gives you the hands of a four year old and the face of Cheryl Cole. Thankfully, one of these stalls don’t force beauty products down the throats of consumers. Rather than that, then simply serve to provide you with some pretzels. That to me already sounds like a plan. On one of our momentous shopping trips where we spent more on food than we did on actual stuff to bring home, I took a craving for some pretzels, having not had them since we were in Munich last year. Auntie Anne’s came to my rescue and saved me from having to buy an economy-sized bag. The nice friendly lady let me take ages to make up my mind which for most people is the cue to get knarky and start giving off and throwing things. I decided to plump for the meal deal of pretzel and a drink for £3.20, a wise idea because pretzels tend to leave you leaving very very thirsty. Perfect to wash down with a litre of German beer. Unfortunately I had no such luck, so I went for some Coke. Not quite the same but it was as close as I can get at lunch time in a shopping centre in Belfast. Well worth a stop on your shopping journey. Can’t really see people flying into George Best Airport in search of these magical pretzels, but it is nice to munch on while everyone is rushing about.
