We stopped in for a pint and a bite to eat, on an otherwise slow day. The bartender was very friendly, and we enjoyed our stop. They have a number of beers and ciders on tap, and an extensive scotch selection. I had a stovie, which was served with oatcakes. The bar is unpretentious, welcoming, and worth a visit.

This is a nice little pub with a decent variety of beers. I’ve eaten here a couple times and I definitely wasn’t wowed by their burgers(chips are pretty good). I would go back to try other items on the menu if someone insisted on eating here, but not of my own accord. I would come back for a nice quiet evening of drinks, though!

What this bar does not carry in high class, it carries in heaps of character. Inexpensive pints + students/professors mingling in the same bar makes for some great banter. Oh, I Miss you Aberdeen!

I did my doctorate at King’s College(Univ of Aberdeen) and lived in the city for years afterwards. This was the«student» pub, as it’s virtually on campus. It’s in no way fancy or pretentious. It’s just a damned good«local» where you can get a pint and some«braw craic»(great conversation). The pints are«no dear» either!!! It’s a wee bit dingy, but that’s part of it’s charm.

The Machar is a very ordinary pub, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Don’t go there if you don’t like crowds or if you need fancy toilets. It’s a convivial spot and a must-do if you find yourself on the Old Aberdeen campus of the University of Aberdeen.
