Dropped in for dinner on a Sunday evening. It’s got a large varied menu. Everything we had was great. Well worth checking out.

We stopped in on a Sunday evening for dinner, and had a nice dinner, amidst a somewhat empty restaurant. The servers were very nice, helpful, and friendly. We felt welcome immediately. We shared wild game bonbons, duck confit, and turkey roulade. Everything was delicious. They boast a big gin selection, and I had a lovely gin cocktail. The location is inside the shopping mall, so it’s easy to miss as you pass on the street. I would definitely return.

My favorite place in Aberdeen. Their brunch is the best thing ever and it is also a great place for night out. Cannot wait to visit this place again once I’m back in Aberdeen.

While the location is a little strange and the menu is a little OTT, thankfully it’s actually really delicious and a pretty cool place to start the day. We headed here for Sunday brunch and arrived just on 11am. We didn’t have a booking but they got us a table without any trouble. At that time of the morning there was only one other table in but it seemed like they were expecting to get really busy. Maybe in Aberdeen they brunch a little later? As mentioned above, the menu is a little heavy on the descriptions of the food — even for me, and I’m a total food wanker. I don’t need to be thinking about the GI of my bread when I’m contemplating what to eat that early in the morning. That being said there is clearly a lot of passion behind the menu and they have an interesting selection of dishes. I ordered an OJ and the eggs Hemingway(with smoked salmon and hollandaise, £8). We didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive and overall I was really impressed with my breakfast, even though there was a slightly strange taste to the hollandaise which I really can’t describe. Graeme had ordered the full breakfast and I won’t lie, I had total food envy. There was a huge hunk of hash brown on his plate that I had to restrain myself from stealing. The location of Rye & Soda is weird — it’s inside a shopping centre which looks a little like it’s stuck in the 1990s, whereas R&S is sleek, modern and a little Scandinavian. If you need to use the loos you need to leave R&S and go to the shopping centre toilets — granted, they aren’t all that far away. R&S is also a bar in the evenings so it could be getting a return visit when we are back in Aberdeen over the summer.
