As a traveling American I have been looking for a decent pizza since I have been in the UK. Pizza Express had the promising look of a local pizza joint, but after entering it to be very dressy and high-life which I was not prepared for.
The pizza was nothing exceptional — I ordered an American Hot which was not spicy at all and the pepperonis were some of the saddest attempts I’ve ever seen. The pizza was incredibly overpriced for the what I got. Despite the poor performance, the pizza is still better than Dominos, etc so don’t discount the pizza entirely.
Drinks were prohibitively expensive and drove me to drink water. Also, it was difficult to find any sort condiments — pepper, etc. Service was alright.

Pizza Express on Union Street is part of the big chain. It has recently been upgraded and is nice inside, although they have got rid of the seating area when you in to wait for friends.
It is a nice atmosphere, it has a good buzz and is a good place for a weekday dinner with friends, although not for a special night out.
It is a great place for families and they cater well for children.
The food is good Italian, they do a good variety of food and the pizzas are really nice and there is nicer choices than the usual.
Prices are good, watch out for the buy one get one free deals that have been around recently — makes it especially good value!
