Excellent atmosphere, delicious food. Great place to stop, get a bite to eat and relax.

I was so sad that I only discovered this place on the last day of my week-​long stay in Lisbon. It’s light, inviting, cozy, with lovely staff, good wi-​fi, plenty of seating, and — of course — delicious food. I came here for both breakfast and lunch, and both were executed perfectly. I wish I could have stayed longer just to spend more time in this place!

My fellow travelers and I met up here every morning to go over our day and enjoy a delicious breakfast. The space, which used to be a warehouse in the past, is not an excellent coffee shop and café. The service is super friendly and helpful. The food and coffee are really nice and it’s in a wonderful location. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Lisbon!

El Pois es un lugar boho-​chic, europeo, moderno, con una decoración muy especial.
Gran variedad de tostas y brunch, es un buen sitio para quien se encuentre por la zona de la catedral. Eso si, esta lleno de turistas y los precios están orientados a ese publico, sin ser exagerado, no es lo mas barato en Lisboa.

We have eaten here three times for brunch while in Lisbon and have loved it every time. Friendly and helpful service with delicious food. You can’t go wrong here!

Endroit adorable au coeur de Lisbonne. Nourriture excellente et variée. Le cadre est juste magnifique et adapté aux enfants aux groupes à 2 ou tout seul. Possibilité de lire les journaux et des guides livres et autres. Immanquable.

Excellent spot for lunch! Great selection of salads and sandwiches. Service is very friendly. Frequented by tourists, probably for the free wifi.

Petit restaurant très sympathique pour se restaurer. Il n’y a pas de plats très typiques mais le cadre est très sympa et les serveurs très cool.

That’s a nice place indeed, even if it is not very Portuguese :)
They do a whole lot of small things to eat, from soup plates (€ 2.5) to hot toasts (€ 6 – 7) to salads (€ 6 – 9). Their homemade cakes are good too, especially the apple strudel (€ 3.5).
As for the place itself, it is pretty comfortable since:
— there is a large terrace, perfect for sunny days
— it is all cosy and comfy inside, with old, cute armchairs and large communal tables

wir waren super froh als wir das pois gefunden habe. tolle kleine auswahl an kleinen und grossen speisen, toller café, super bedienung, alles wirklich mit liebe eingerichtet und das essen ist einfach super authentisch und lecker.

Nous venions d’arriver, à peine installé je voulais déjà testé mes adresses recommandées.
Alors j’ai enmener mon copain dans ce petit café au calme d’une petite ruelle proche de l’Alfama,
Ici c’est sans chichi mais bon, on peut déguster des mets très sains comme des sandwich aux gôuts novateurs accompagnés d’un vinho verde.
Il sont aussi présent, les petits gateaux qui accompagnerons votre café si vous venez ici en fin de journée vous affaler dans les canapés.
Ce café m’a fait pensé au sentiment que l’on peu ressentir quand on arrive dans une auberge de jeunesse, à la chaleur de l’accueil et des personnes que l’on peut rencontrer.
Je vous conseil donc ce petit endroit caché.

Sacher Torte Yes!

Perhaps a notch above starbucks and other local coffee houses, but not up to par with other artisanal/​craft cafes. Mediocre coffee & food. Service could of been better. I had to wait quite a while for the girl behind the counter to acknowledge me, and when she finally decided to ask me what I want, proceeded to forget my order until I flagged someone else down.
What does this place have going for it? The interior design is great. Nice architecture, seating, layout, lighting, etc. Overall a nice atmosphere. It wasn’t too crowded either, which I appreciate. There’s also free wifi. Most of all, it’s a place you can go to and work, read, eat, and have coffee without leaving their establishment. Oh, and it’s relatively cheap.

Located next to the Lisbon Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa), great breakfast place, quality coffee, clean toilets, good service, little terrasse outside, free wifi, it’s the perfect coffee shop to start your morning in Old Lisbon before starting your visit.

After reading all the great reviews we expected more from Pois. Coffee was okay, not noticeably better than anything else in the area. Food was okay, again, nothing really special. Everything was fresh and well prepared, no complaints really, just not overly thrilled about what we had. Some people seem excited by the décor… there are lots of books and stuffed animals lining the restaurant (so what? It’s not like you can eat them…). Some patrons were taking pictures inside which I found strange because the building is not unique considering it’s area. The menu is somewhat expensive too considering all of the other options in the neighborhood (check out Credo a few doors down for a much more interesting menu)

A decoração é interessante. Os baús… Os livros espalhados. Bom para passar uma tarde entre amigos ou a trabalhar um pouco. O hummus primeiro estranha se depois entranha se.

Moment rare de quiétude dans ce café à la déco particulièrement décalée pour Lisbonne, chaleureuse et cosy avec ses larges canapés et fauteuils, ou encore ses longues tables en bois, sans oublier la petite terrasse aménagée sur la rue. Il s’agit sans doute du seul établissement de l’Alfama dont le concept et/​ou l’ambiance musicale n’a pas trait au Fado. Ça change et ça peut faire du bien. On peut y grignoter, voire s’y restaurer si affinité et lire tranquillement un des magazines francophone ou non à disposition. Wi fi sur demande. Que demander de plus?

Très chouette petit café au décor soigné et tendance niché au coeur du charmant quartier de l’alfama. Nous y avons fait un stop à midi et n’avons pas regretté notre choix! La carte propose un grand choix de salades et sandwichs, quelques tapas et des plats du jour. Il y a aussi toutes sortes de gâteaux et une longue carte de boissons, il y en a pour tous les goûts! J’ai opté pour une salade fromage de chèvre, poires, noix et un jus frais ananas-​mangue-​gingembre, un régal! De plus, les serveurs sont super sympas et certains parlent meme français. Et tout ça sans se ruiner! J’adore.

If you want a break from the tapas, or just want a break in general with an eclectic but homey atmosphere, this is where you want to go. Not only do they have books to peruse through here, but you can have your cake and eat it too! No but really, their cakes are delicious. Depending on time of day and availability, it’s hard to go wrong with any of them. I tried their chocolate cake and their chestnut cake, both flavorful and rich.
Wanting something savory? I dig their soup — lentil was all they had left but it was one of the best I’ve had. Grab yourself a cup o’ joe as well, or a panini that’s filled with fresh ingredients.
Overall, great place to lounge, chat, read, or eat. Or all of them at the same time. They also have a cute outdoor porch that faces the street if you want to do all of the above, plus people-​watching.

Great little café with lots of character. They have awesome food (I’ve loved everything I’ve had there). The place is sooo cozy, with large tables if you need to work, and comfortable couches if you’re there to just relax. They have free wifi, which is always a plus.
Definitely a place worth visiting.

An Austrian café in Lisbon? Why not? Pois café is an adorably quirky spot in an adorably quirky neighborhood in Alfama, and provides a nice respite from the hearty and heavy Portuguese meals that we were eating during our trip. In addition to tourists from around the world, the café seemed to provide a nice gathering spot for young, hip locals in the area as well. This was the perfect spot to unwind and have a healthy but flavorful and memorable meal on a cool afternoon.

top tip: take the #28 trolley up to the medieval Castelo de São Jorge, get awed by views of the old Alfama district to the river Tejo, then stop here for a spot of healthy lunch, galão and bola de berlim. some killer apfelstrudel too (owner is Austrian). super chill with friendly folks, comfy couches, free wifi, soft jazz and smells like pancakes.

Pois é…senti-me em casa; quem me dera ter aquela casa…
De traça antiga, numa das zonas mais pitorescas de lisboa, boa música, bons livros, o cheiro a pão fresco e bolos acabados de fazer, café ou apenas um chazinho e uma pausa ao final do dia, o que podemos pedir mais?
Entrei e não me apetecia sair… Ah, o ambiente, uma mistura muito agradável de conhecedores do espaço e turistas incrédulos de encontrarem um café austríaco no meio do bairro. Parabéns, recomendo vivamente.

Pois, o pois é como em casa já se sabe. O sofá de canto só para mim, livros espalhados, boa música no ar, internet para trabalhar, café, depois um batido, e de duas em duas horas um doce, uma tarte ou um struddel ou um fabuloso bolo de chocolate. Bem em casa não há struddel pelo menos como este, mas de resto sento-​me aqui tantas horas que me sinto em casa, ou sinto-​me aqui tanto em casa que sento mais e mais vezes descobrindo às vezes no Pois novas inspirações para trabalhar ao computador. E pois, estas coisas é que contam para voltar.

Um espaço espectacular, num sitio que adoro, ao lado da Sé Catedral. Iniciativa de umas austríacas, aqui se podem provar algumas especialidades daquele pais, como o Apfelstrudel, «escarrapachados» num sofá, a ler um dos livros disponíveis. É um espaço para estar e degustar, seja uma salada, seja apenas uma tosta mista acompanhada de um sumo natural. Por vezes é difícil arranjar lugar, mas as possibilidades são variadas, nem que seja em cima de uma estante.

Já tive a minha dose das ruas de Alfama e sem duvida que a minha preferência ficou pela zona da Sé e é lá que se encontra o Pois Café e um facto não é alheio ao outro.
No Pois é fácil, muito fácil, sentirmo-​nos em casa. Numa casa ali do bairro, com uma luz própria, e com uma janela virada para a rua onde vemos os vizinhos que passam de manhã até à noite…
E quem não gostava de ter uma casa daquelas… Tectos altos, paredes de pedra, arcos e espaço, muito espaço… Aqui também se lê. Aliás, a casa faz questão em promover o bookcrossing mas mesmo para quem não tenha o que trocar, há aqui muitos que se podem puxar para a mesa e ler… Ainda que por vezes seja difícil a concentração com o cheiro agradável que nos chega da cozinha…
O facto de ter wi-​fi gratuito também é muito bom para os fanáticos do online como eu. Que se pode querer mais? Cheiro de bolos quentes, um sumo natural, um sofá e uma ligação à Net? Tudo isto fica muito próximo do paraíso.

Chama-​se Pois, situa-​se em Alfama, um dos mais típicos bairros de Lisboa, mas é um café austríaco. Num edifício antigo, com grandes arcadas no interior, o espaço organiza-​se num open space, o que significa que das mesas podemos ver o que se passa cozinha. Como tal é normal que enquanto toma um café e escolhe um dos muitos livros à disposição (o Pois promove o bookcrossing) seja envolvido pelo cheirinho a bolo de maçã ou scones que estão a ser preparados para o lanche. Diariamente há um menu do dia, composto por uma sopa, um prato e um sumo natural, imperando os sabores exóticos e pratos típicos da gastronomia austríaca e internacional. Aos fins-​de-​semana, a partir das 11 horas é servido o brunch.
Na decoração destacam-​se os quadros pendurados nas paredes, mesas e cadeiras de diferentes cores e feitos, poltronas antigas, flores e outros pequenos objectos que enchem o espaço de personalidade e referências a várias cidades. Para quem tem crianças, há um cantinho com brinquedos, almofadas e sofás que convidam a momentos de brincadeira.
Para mim é o sítio perfeito para passar uma manhã ou tarde de fim-​de-​semana, sem pressa, perdida em conversas e leituras. O ambiente é informal e muito relaxado e somos sempre recebidos com um sorriso. Não há nada melhor!

Um cafézinho que me faz sentir como se estivesse em casa, na minha sala de estar. É para aqui que vou quando estou em Alfama e me apetece comer uma coisinha leve, num ambiente agradável e com wi-​fi gratuito.
Paredes em pedra sustentadas por três arcos, quadros artísticos, sofás confortáveis, mesinhas e cadeiras, onde posso desfrutar das especialidades da casa e folhear a grande variedade livros e revistas.
Por 9.50 euros, posso comer um menu completo, com sopa, prato principal e suminho natural.
A comida é excelente havendo uma ementa variada onde posso encontrar também bruchs, tostas, saladas, tapas, e deliciosas sobremesas. A minha escolha costuma ser o brunch com café e iogurte com muesli e frutas ou a maravilhosa tarte de maracujá.

Ein Super toller Laden. Lecker essen, alles selbst gemacht. Ich Säfte und Kuchen sind wirklich besonders. Lohnt sich auf jeden fall!

Alternativ eingerichtetes Café. Wer aber ein typisches portugiesisches Café erwartet ist hier fehl an Platz. Es gibt weder portugiesische Kaffeespezialitäten, noch die typischen Süßigkeiten wie Pasteis de Nata.
Abgesehen davon sind alle Speisen und Getränke sehr gut. Die Preise sind allerdings höher, als üblich. p. s. leider auch kein freies W-​lan

Wir haben das Brunch des Tages genommen und das war super. Aber: hier sind eher nordeuropäische Preise angekommen (13,40EUR inkl. Saft und Café).

Sehr einladendes Ambiente mit bequemen Sesseln und Couches im Stil eines Kaffeehauses dazu eine Sammlung kurioser Bücher in verschiedensten Sprachen laden zum Verweilen ein. Hatte ein Sandwich mit Salat, das sehr lecker war. Service ist auch freundlich. Publikum sehr gemischt und touristisch, aber es herrscht dennoch kein Durchgangsverkehr. Alles in allem sehr angenehm!

Really good relaxed café in the warren of streets that make up the Alfama district.
A completely informal vibe makes this a café to spend time in and enjoy the good food. The décor is modern and includes sofas, easy chairs, stools and big tables to share. Music was good as well nothing cheesy here!
I can’t really comment on the menu apart from the smoked salmon sandwich with salad that I had but the salad was dressed well, really crunchy and tasty as well as a sandwich which had good flavour and a generous amount of cream cheese with it.
I would recommend this café as a step away from the tourist cafes and more in tune with the more genuine Lisbon.

The soup I tried (can’t quite remember what flavour it was), was under seasoned, but I suppose better that you can add your own seasoning. The sandwich was ok but not overwhelmingly different from what you could make yourself or find at a supermarket.
Nice staff though and free wifi too.

geworden. Sowohl für Cappuccino, kleines Mittagessen (Salate u.
Sandwiches waren nicht nur geschmacklich u. frischemäßig, sondern auch visuell ein Hochgenuß), für Kuchen und vor allem für den Wohlfühleffekt
durch die Ausstrahlung des Ortes und den extremst liebenswerten
Service bekommt das pois von uns den Platz 1 für Lissabon u. Umgebung.

Völlig überteuertes, fast nur von (jungen, alternativen) Touristen besuchtes Café in der Alfama. Nette Wanddekorationen. Man sitzt z.T. an großen Tischen mit Blick auf die (offene) kleine Küche. Betrieben von einem jungen österreichischen Pärchen.

Great café. Fantastic ambiance. There are toys for the kids and books for the adults. The pastries and coffee are great. Feels like San Francisco by way of Austria, populated only by happy, friendly people.

charmant café tenu par des autrichiennes au coeur du vieux Lisbonne au détour d’une rue pavée. très agréable pour lire la presse en dégustant un délicieux et copieux brunch. également des sandwichs inventifs, des plats, et de merveilleuses pâtisseries. La déco est confortable et simple: meubles récupérés, banquettes moelleuses, vieilles chaises dépareillées, tables anciennes en bois dans une grande pièce aux pierres apparentes et haute de plafond.

Cooles österreichisches Café in Lissabon, mit alter Einrichtung a la königlich und kaiserlich — man kommt sich vor wie in einem alten Wiener Kaffehaus! Sehr gemischt, aber hat sehr viel Flair :-) Und außerdem ist die Besitzerin Österreicherin und ich kann nur sagen, den BESTEN APFELSTRUDEL den ich je gegessen hab g! Für alle die mal nach Lissabon fahren/​fliegen, ein Ort der Heimat und doch ein bisschen anders.

Ein typisches Café für Expatriates und Touristen, die sich mal für einen Moment auch im Urlaub wie zu Hause fühlen möchten. Es gibt internationale Zeitschriften, Tageszeitungen und auch einige Bücher in englisch. Die Karte ist ebenfalls zweisprachig, eine Kellnerin sprach sogar deutsch. Serviert wird Kaffee in jeder Variante, Säfte, kalte Getränke. Zu essen gibt es Kuchen und Kleinigkeiten (Aufläufe, Salate, Suppen).
Schön ist das Ambiente: Hohe Decken und eine bunte Mischung aus verschiedensten Holztischen, bunten Truhen und alten Stühlen. Außerdem macht es Spaß, das Café im Gewirr der Gassen in Alfama zu suchen.
Leider nicht ganz billig.
