Great place to lodge. It’s on the park, he he, as the name implies which gives the hotel a nice location for people who like to stroll. The gardens in the park are matchless and with a few km are plenty of restaurants and pubs. The hotel itself is quaint with old fashioned keys and a rustic feel. The food in the restaurant is fine if you don’t have the legs or cab money. You can eat well enough.

We thought it was great! Although they are still repairing some sections after the earthquake, our room on the third floor was clean, comfortable and spacious with a balcony with a view of the gardens. Would have been nice to have a small bistro table outside though, to enjoy the balcony and views.(Inner courtyard rooms did have tables though.) Short walk to the city centre thru the Botanic Garden. Good location, quiet, easy parking. Nice wines at the bar, but we didn’t try the restaurant as we prefer to explore. They have a black&white resident cat, Gary, but we didn’t see him the two nights we were there.

I remember a small room with 2 double beds and dark heavy furniture. The website shows the rooms have been updated since our visit and they don’t look so claustrophobic in the photos. Reputedly gorgeous gardens but never saw them. An arrival after dark and rain the day after prevented us from exploring.
