An RSA is always bound to be a hoot but this one has an even more interesting characters than most. The usual pool and darts on offer and screens more rugby games unless they are on too late. Quiz night on a Tuesday draws in quite a crowd and Friday and Saturday afternoons the place is in a great swing

The memory of the Waiheke RSA is burned forever in my mind. I’m really not the kind of person who would ever go to an RSA, and this was for sure my first and only visit to one. We only ended up here because we arrived on Waiheke late on a Sunday night, and absolutely nowhere else was open nearby, and we were starving! Now for all I know, this could be a five-star RSA. It certainly was ‘an experience’. It was like stepping into another world — one in which non-member men’s names were taken down at the door, their hands shaken seriously, and the only other women in the place were serving food. We ate roast from a buffet. It was done traditional style with not an ounce of seasoning or edge of interest to be found. We drank beer. We played pool. Nobody talked to us. Then we left.
