Very nice young staff, beautiful location, real shame they went cheap on the chef. I ordered steak, medium rare and a pizza.
Steak was small and so over cooked I’m still trying to digest it today. The pizza was similar to a supermarket frozen one some a swirl of cream. .tasteless and dry.
I have gone here many times but won’t be back. New chef should be flipping big macs and not worth $ 82 for what I got.

The Velvet Gypsy is an amazing place!!! Amazing specials every night of the week and great food. There are two sides of the restaurant (one quieter and sleeker, the other lively and facing the beach). The décor is awesome and keeps in line with the name of the place. Everyone looks like they are having an amazing time. I saw a huge age range — groups of 20 and 30 something as well as families and older folk.
They also have a great range of food and beverages. We got the 2/​$ 20 gourmet pizza special and both were delicious!!! We will be going back for steak night and the summer platter.

I’d have to say that The Velvet Gypsy has come a long way since I first went there when it changed from it’s previous owners (Flax) to the current ones. I was pretty disappointed back then, but my experience the other day was nothing but pleasant. They have truly stepped up their game which is great! It was perfect weather and the food matched that. I had a chicken salad which was incredible. Great tasting food, well seasoned and the wine I selected matched well. The staff were very friendly and informative, as well as always circulating around which is important when running a busy and popular location. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Enjoyed their 2 for $ 20 gourmet pizza deal last Sunday evening. Such a bargain, the pizzas were large, had a good amount of quality toppings and the flavour combinations were very good — the ingredients chosen complemented each other well. Crayons and a colouring menu for children which I wasn’t expecting from a place like this. Nice touch! Our server was friendly and efficient, also the table next to us had a man seat them & he was very welcoming & sounded like he knew the menu well. Cute cushions and funky colours inside and comfy outdoor seating with a stellar view. Only complaint was that my squid entrée was over cooked (chewy) & that the lights inside were dimmed a bit too low — I felt at times I was squinting to see the food. Overall an enjoyable experience & would definitely return.

Even though the bar tender is friendly he does not know how to make margaritas. I showed him my review and he wanted to make one more for us but too little too late. Mind u the cost was only 10 $ per drink

We were in Browns Bay last weekend and our tummies were beginning to growl with hunger pangs. We looked at a few places on the beach but decided on this place as they did a good deal on pizzas — two for $ 20. The back bar which looks onto the beach was very busy so we decided to sit in the bar at the front. There wasn’t a soul there and it was quite cool compared to the heat of the back bar. I got an ice cold Heineken which was perfectly poured with a frothy head. We had to wait a good twenty minutes for the pizzas but that’s allright, we were in no hurry. When they came, they were superb and big too. Two of these pizzas would probably feed three or four people. They tasted amazing, as good as you would get in an Italian restaurant. Mine had a spicy salami with capsicum and big green olives. Overall, very good food and drink and if only the music (2012 pop) was better, it would have been the perfect afternoon.

This is a cool place to go in Browns Bay, its got 2 faces, one that faces the beach and one that faces the road. On the Beach face it has some comfortable lounge chairs and bar tables to admire the beauty of Browns Bay Beach and its more for eating. The street face is more of the bar side and yes the drinking side.
We came here this week and had Pizza and some drinks, we received really good service and the pizza was pretty good too. They have a pretty good menu with a variety of tasty sounding dishes.
During the day you can come and have lunch, and later in the evening dinner, then they come alive after dark for drinks and dancing.
