Nice place, good décor, really friendly bar tender. I really like the comfy couches and the music isn’t so loud you can’t hear yourself talk. Outside area looked good too, will try it sometime.

This place is one of my locals and its pretty kewl, the staff are charming and friendly, this is another one of those places I would go on a week night for a relaxed drink with a few friends. Not my scene during the weekend though.

The Minx used to be my Go-To local… now it’s lost it’s edge a bit. :(

It may seem a little bit off the beaten track but The Ginger Minx absolutely nails that neighbourhood vibe. They describe themselves on FB as ‘a house party at a mate of a mates’ and for this very reason Ginger Minx promises never to have a cover charge and offers free Wifi to all of its patrons, which in Auckland is a rarity. With bloody Mary specials, great music and a huge outdoor courtyard this place is ideal for a sunny Sunday session.

Ever feel like having a dance after doing your supermarket shopping? Fancy a laid back drink with your nana? Maybe a sunday session that stretches far into the night? The Ginger Minx is your place for all of the above. I believe it’s owned by the same people who own the dominion, but thankfully they have let the manager do their own thing with the place, and it has turned into a well regarded little spot for the discerning partier. There is a spacious outdoor area, a halfway indoor-oudoor seated zone, a large table next to the window and a big dance floor in the back. A wide range of DJ’s play, and you never really know what you are going to get when you go. The beers are a bit expensive — 9 dollars a pop, but they do cheap bloody marys on sundays as well as other deals — but those in particular can be a lifesaver.

One of my favourite hangouts in Auckland, the Ginger Minx has to be one of the most chilled spots to hang out and have a beer. It reminds me of being it at a mates’ house, with a relaxed vibe, whether it be late on a Saturday night or after work on a Thursday evening. $ 10 for a pint is reasonable personally and bars always receive extra points for offering jugs in my books. The $ 7 pizza nights are unreal, with unorthodox flavours providing a novelty value with the consistently flavoursome servings. Regular DJ nights at the Minx ensure a steady flow of patrons and it’s location on the edge of suburbia and in close proximity to the city provide it with a unique atmosphere.

This bar does a good job of balancing between comfortable and cool. Not so comfortable that you’d confuse it for a shabby RSA, but not so cool that you feel awkward and inadequate. The sort of place where you don’t have to wear black leather Viaduct town shoes, but if you’re wearing sneakers they should probably be something with a label. They regularly have DJs playing, and the music can vary quite a bit. This means it can be a gamble what you’ll get if you pop in unplanned, but it also mean you get to hear some interesting music, and not just the same songs every night in a slightly different order. Good for a lazy afternoon drink, or for a more energetic night out. Plus it’s handy to Dominion Road buses which can be afterwards when you want to go home or into town for the next leg of the adventure.

A staple for Sunday sessions, the Ginger Minx has been well known as a place to go in Auckland for a long time. Live DJ’s, fantastic cocktails, and an atmosphere that just exudes cool, the Minx is one of those places that you can sit and stay for the whole day and never feel like leaving. And if the cocktails are starting to get a bit much, nip next door to the Dom and line your stomach to prepare for round two… Or was that seven? I can never remember.

Located just minutes from New Zealand’s renowned Eden Park Stadium and a mere $ 15 taxi ride to town, the Ginger Minx couldn’t be more perfectly situated. On an average night one can share a drink with their in-laws while lounging on comfy sheepskin throws in the outdoor area, or can gossip, mingle and people-watch inside over a cocktail with the girls. The Ginger Minx boasts eclectic funky décor, both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a dance floor, complete with turntables where local DJ heroes like Dick Johnson can be found most nights spinning dubstep and drum n bass beats. The Mexican inspired/street-style décor and photos pinned behind the bar create a shrine-like composition that is an interesting way to occupy the time it takes bar staff to concoct their masterpieces. The Ginger Minx has managed what most bars and restaurants(especially those outside of town) aspire to; it is the perfect blend of familiarity and excitement, young and old, local and exotic — and it is this combination that keeps its patrons coming back again and again. Strongly recommended for both visitors to Auckland, as well as local residents; the fun, comfortable atmosphere means a good time is guaranteed.
