I was very impressed with The Block. Given there are so few cafes in Avondale we have to trek over to Blockhouse Bay for brunch and we decided to give it a go. They have a very small breakfast menu(which is always a good sign) and prompt service. The coffee(Atomic) was excellent and there are some interesting things on the menu. My partner was impressed with the hash brown and I had the avocado on toast which was delicious, and much better than most other cafes. A friendly suburban café(which is also open for lunch and dinner). Worth a try!

I regret putting the photo up before trying it — wasn’t bad tasting but when you order a SALAD… You don’t expect a roast dinner(pumpkin, potato, roast betroot & carrots) hmmm yea just not what I picture a salad to be…

I really, really want to like this place, after all this is my local and the food isn’t shabby at all. However every single time I came here I was let down by their service, poor, super slow, non-existent service. I wish there is somewhere better in Blockhouse Bay, that way I don’t have to come here and be disappointed every single time.

We went on a weekday, food came pretty fast and the service was good. Good atmosphere! The presentation on the plates were really nice, simple and classy.

Have been to The Block three times with different people that wanted to try it out and each time has been disappointing! The service is terrible. Staff were awkward and rude with confusion over whether you order at the counter or table, and wait times were especially long even when only half full. There are no smiles here to match the good décor and pleasant outdoor seating. Food is OK but small servings and very over priced. The Block is unfortunately not what you expect from your local.

The Block is a great eatery in Blockhouse Bay — hence the name, bringing a casual atmosphere for that laid back meal. For this occasion we chose to come for brunch however I will be returning for lunch or dinner after seeing what other diners around us had ordered. TBH what we ate would be a really good hangover meal. The Block serves as a real man’s meal giving you everything you want for breakfast. The bf said the baked beans were great as they had a more barbecued flavour and thought the stuffed mushroom was something different! I couldn’t ask for more. Everything on the sunrise sandwich was cooked perfectly and satisfied exactly what I was craving. The only issue I have is the name of the meal haha — sunrise sandwich is just odd. The meals are served hot, and quickly and although they aren’t amazing they are a great size and great value for money. You get what you expect whilst tasting goood. The Block isn’t trying too hard to be anything its not. Also I give them a plus for table service. Nice café in blockhouse Bay. The décor is great and fitting for a large group for a Sunday brunch. The service could be better though, if you don’t want to wait like 20 mins to order. Please go straight up to the counter. Which is annoying if you have a big group. The food was OK, the eggs benedict I had tasted like vinegar. My friend had the mushroom which I wish I had ordered it instead.

My new local! Great atmosphere, love the outdoor seating and great food! Try the hashbrown meal! It’s bigger than your face!

The Block Café is absolutely brilliant, with great service, a great environment, and delicious food and drinks. It is situated on the main road in Blockhouse Bay, which makes for a nice change as there aren’t that many great cafes in this area. This place really knew what it was doing when it started up just recently. I happen to know the owner personally, and know how much work has gone into making this place as good as it is now. We came in on a Sunday for breakfast, and it was a busy buzzing day here, across the road at all the other cafes it was empty, you could tell The Block has just taken all the business, and it is easy to see why. The service is great, prompt and friendly. There are plenty of areas and tables for seating, including outside on the surrounding deck. The food is impeccable with great favour combinations and beautiful presentation. You can choose from a menu or the cabinet food which was full of amazing things too, making it hard to choose. We settled on the eggs benedict, the muesli, and the mushrooms on toast, with coffees and a smoothie to match. It was all delicious, and we polished of our plates. What I particularly liked was that the muesli was served with all of its components separately, so you could be the judge of how much berries, yoghurt or honey you had with it. They also really put in an effort with absolutely everything, we came on St Patricks day and the cabinet was filled with specialty green cakes and muffins and so forth, really quite clever. Will definitely be returning for more, very soon.

The Block Café is a new café in Blockhouse Bay right on the main road. And it feels pretty new. The building’s exterior is very cool, big wrap around wooden decks and awesome little herb gardens around the perimetre of the decks… You would never guess that it used to be a hardware store. It’s great when the sun is out! However the staff are, as yet, pretty new too and they couldn’t really cope with the huge number of people that were there the Sunday afternoon I went there. My brother ordered eggs on toast for breakfast and we both had a coffee. The eggs came super quickly but we waited for a long time before our coffees came… a really long time. My brother had long been finished with his breakfast before we were served them. In saying that, once they arrived they were ok. I think this place has real potential, there’s just a few things to iron out before they reach it.
