Takahe is my favorite café/restaurant in Titirangi village. It is a little pricey when compared to the others, but the food and location are well worth it imho. I have been here numerous times just for coffee, but also for breakfast menu as well as their dinner bistro menu and have never been disappointed. My only past negative comment may have been the lack of attention from staff, but this is obviously a problem that has been rectified. We had menus and water within seconds of sitting down, waitresses were swift in taking our orders and bringing food and then clearing dishes. We sat for ages as well and didn’t feel rushed out or pressured to leave. Defiantly a place to come eat if out but again, it is a little more pricey then perhaps would be expected when compared to the other cafes on the same road.

Takahe can definitely claim best café location in Titirangi — situated looking right out over the bush, any window seat actually almost feels like you are just hanging out in a fancy tree house for lunch. Their coffee is usually very good, as is the food on offer. Even though I couldn’t finish it, the big breakfast was pretty tasty and my mum seemed quite happy snacking on her beef swiss burger(I think her only complaint was maybe they doused it with a bit too much relish for her taste). Service is nice but nothing special; however I think the reason most people come here is for the fantastic setting above anything else.

Takahe is so so lovely. I sometimes wish it wouldn’t try so hard because it becomes confusing at to what it is trying to be. Are you hipster are you upscale classy what are you? Still it is a great spot to come to in the village. I venture here about once week at the moment, sometimes for lunch, sometimes just for a coffee or a smoothy. Always lovely. Ive only been to dinner here maybe three times, mostly because i prefer dining here during the day when the sun is out and the birds are chirping. The venue is amazing. It literally sits atop of greenery. Hard to describe but it means that when you sit at the bar it looks like you could drop at an instant. Pretty incredible. This is a popular spot with the youngness and the older generation. Not overly kid friendly but its doable if need be. I also think it can get a little pricey for the village but again that might the thing they are going for.
