Sky Tower

I bought the grabone for admittance into the skytower. There was no wait to get to any floor which was great! As I reached the top, someone was getting ready to bungee jump. After I watched them bungee jump I was ready to go down. The slight fear of heights had gotten to me :)
The views were beautiful! I had a beautiful view from my hotel room the night before of the tower all lit up at night.
Definitely must do while in Auckland! It’s beautiful!

Well done Aukland. Loved the vistas from up top and enjoyed watching the jumpers fall:). Glad it wasn’t me, whew, it made me really nervous.
We got to the top as the sun came out and enjoyed a 360 degree view of Aukland. What a beautiful city.

Its iconic, it’s touristy, but that’s it. Apart from a great view and good food, all you can eat food… You empty your wallet in the process. The sky tower is the icon of Auckland, but it make sure it stays that way by costing a fortune and remaining to be only for tourists. It’s not a cheap place where locals can have a drink, nor is it a hang out spot or local fave. It’s a tourist attraction, and that is all it will ever be.

If I was a budget traveler, I probably wouldn’t have made a stop to Sky Tower. Mt. Eden and One Tree Hill also offers superior views of Auckland for the nice price of free. Sky Tower charges a cool 28NZ (you can find a $ 3 off coupon in the NZ arrival brochures in the airport or bring your student ID which brings the price to 20NZ) for the privilege of shuttling you up to their 360 observation deck for unobstructed views of Auckland. You are completely encased in and the experience is similar to any other major cities that have admission based observation towers.
We made it there on a Monday so it wasn’t too crowded. The 1^st elevator stop takes you to an area that has restrooms and displays identifying points of interest. Then you can take a 2^nd elevator up to a higher but smaller area for observation. No restrooms there so be sure to make a potty stop if you want to camp out in the higher area. We got there about 1 hour before sunset to catch some daylight, the sunset and then a bit of whatever gets lit up just before dark.
There is a café and restaurants. I think if you have reservations to the restaurant, you can do the Sky Tower for free. You also have the option of bungee jumping off Sky Tower or doing a Sky Walk (walking outside around the rim). Sky Tower is lumped together with the Sky City complex so there’s a bunch of eateries in the immediate area and a casino. Free speedy wifi at the top!

The staff here are brilliant. So what if it’s a little overpriced?! So what if you aren’t sure because it might be too commercialised. I bring all the Brits here because they will love it. I have never gone wrong. Just lock it in newbies and strap in for some good times.

If you want to stunning view and some nice food you must come up here. Yes the entry fee is a little bit expensive but I guess it was really worth it once we got up there.

Went up the sky tower today– the views were incredible as always, however the service at the sky café was appalling. Thee are two counters at the café, to which only one was in use however this was unclear as we lined up in the wrong place. Once we were in the line, it took 10 minutes to get to the front of the queue (we were third in line). Once we were there, we placed our order, then the gentleman serving us went off and did something else, and then returned and had forgotten our order, so we again placed the order (1 two scoop ice cream and 1 single scoop ice cream). We paid separately, and the gentlemen pay waved our cards without our permission (I despise using pay wave), a huge no no. Once we got our ice creams they were tiny for the price, however as they were kapiti they were delicious. Probably wouldn’t return.

If you’re new to Auckland, you might as well visit the Sky Tower. Auckland’s number one landmark!
Features and things you need to know:
~ Three hundred and sixty degrees of stunning views, obviously :)
~ You’ll feel the swaying on the very top level.
~ The windows are slanted diagonal, so you may feel a bit nauseous at first. Especially if hungover, eesh… Won’t do that again.
~ For a straight window view to feel better. Check out the Sky Café to get some ice cream or share some wine.
~ They’ve got a SkyWalk that seems simple enough to do. Challenge yourself!
~ You can base-​jump by doing the SkyJump. Somewhat free-​falling down the tower, but you’re cable guided.
~ There’s a revolving restaurant called Orbit. My review pending: great food, mediocre service.
~ Or you can opt to chill with a cocktail over at the Sugar Club.
~ Oh yeah, love the glass floor windows. Always a trip.
~ Prices seem fair: Adult $ 28.00, Child (6 – 14 years) $ 11.00, and Children 5 years and under are free.
~ OR, you can book the Sugar Club or Orbit and your admission to the top is FREE.
~ Orbit has inner-​dining tables that still rotate.
~ If you’re looking for a window table at night, reservations are a few months out.
~ OR, (one of my tips) book window table dining during lunch time. Odds are better. Only days away versus months.
~ As the late Robin William’s once said in Dead Poet’s Society: «Now, don’t just walk off the edge like lemmings! Look around you!»

Breathtaking views from the highest building in New Zealand!!! A cool stop, not quite must stop, but worth a visit if you’re in town and are looking for something to do. Purchase a ticket at the base of the tower, in the gift shop, and then head up to the top and enjoy the views. There’s no tour guide so you’re on your own when you’re at the top. It’s great though, you can spend as much or as little time at the top as you’d like. Great views… worth the visit if you’ve got the time!

It’s easy way to see all of what Auckland has to offer from a bird’s eye view. The staff are quite friendly and it wasnt overcrowded when i went. The glass floor panels did make my heart skip a beat but it was great fun seeing other people’s reactions too.
Not brave enough to attempt the sky jump or sky walk but it’s an additional to-​do here. My only grouse, if any was the expensive parking rates at skycity starting from $ 15 for the first hour.

Still have memories of going to the sky tower when I was younger. This tower is pretty much the needle tower of Seattle, Washington USA or the Stratosphere In Las Vegas. It rises up sky high above the city of Auckland and consists of a restaurant and bar. It rotates in a 360 degree giving you the best views of the City. The glass elevator and floor makes the experience a whole different level. I remember it being really cheap back then but I am sure prices have skyrocketed by now.
I honestly wish the city of San Francisco had one of these because it would be a perfect addition to the city.
A must to any Auckland, New Zealand Trip!

This place is so great. Especially when it comes to the view and the food. The drinks are really tasty and at a good price same with the food. Pies are really good there.

When I got to the top I was so focused on the views that when I glanced down I about had a heart attack because I was standing on one of the glass floor panels looking 1076 feet straight down to the street below! The sky tower attendant started laughing and said «I was waiting to see your reaction!» Im not normally afraid of heights but that sure had me sweating!

Fernsehtürme sind ja für Deutsche Kinder der 70er Jahre nun wahrlich nix besonderes. Man kennt noch den gelangweilten Fahrstuhlwärter der roboterhaft technische Daten aufzählt, das ziehen in den Ohren bei der rasenden Fahrt nach oben, die Münz-​Teleskope, und schließlich der Höhepunkt des sonntäglichen Besuchs: Das drehende Restaurant, bei dem die Aussicht über Dortmund oder Köln wesentlich spannender war als das Essen. Und wer schon mal Dortmund oder Köln von oben gesehen hat, kann sich vorstellen wie langweilig das teure Essen war.
All das könnte ein Grund dafür gewesen sein, dass drehende Restaurants in den letzten Dekaden einen schweren Stand hatten und viele dieser Roto-​Kantinen seit Jahren geschlossen sind (Stuttgart, Hamburg, Köln…).
Nun, der Skytower in Auckland ist sozusagen ein Fernsehturm 2.0: Es gibt natürlich keinen Aufzugswärter mehr, es gibt sogar noch nicht einmal mehr geschlossene Kabinen: Der Trip nach oben findet in einer halb-​gläsernen Kabine statt und auch auf der inneren Aussichtsplattform hat der Beton wohl nicht gereicht, wie sonst sollte man die riesigen Löcher im Boden erklären, die notdürftig mit Plexiglas gestopft wurden?!
Es gibt auch so etwas wie eine Außenplatform. Um diese zu betreten muss man leider extra bezahlen und einen orangen Schutzanzug, Sturzhelm und Karabinerhaken anlegen. Sprich: Es gibt eine 360° Führung auf einem schmalen, umlaufenden Sims komplett ohne Geländer!
Gegen einen weiteren Aufpreis kann man noch weiter nach oben fahren, was man bei klarer Sicht durchaus mal machen kann. Es gibt auch noch ein Casino dort oben, welches mich aber nicht interessiert.
Wer die berauschende Aussicht auf die Antipoden-​Metropole, Vulkane, zahlreiche Buchten und Inseln lieber im sitzen erleben möchte: Das drehende Restaurant bietet nicht nur das, sondern auch tatsächlich hervorragende und (man glaubt es kaum) preiswerte Pazifische Küche!
Hat man es vor lauter Sightseeing, Gambling und Schlemming nun etwas eilig, muss man noch nicht einmal auf den Aufzug warten. Man springt einfach vom Turm! Es ist zwar kein Bungee (dafür gibt es aber auch an anderen Orten genügend Gelegenheiten) sondern ein kontrollierter, gebremster Sturz, aber der Thrill ist beachtlich.
Fazit: ein moderner Erlebnis-​Aussichtsturm, der mehr zu bieten hat als tolle Aussichten. Das Restaurant bietet sehr gute Küche ohne Touri-​Abzock-​Preise.
An Sylvester wird am Turm weltweit das 1. Feuerwerk des neuen Jahres gezündet, aber ausgerechnet DAS sieht man von oben nicht so gut!

I decided to visit the highest tower in auckland after an exam. Staffs in ticketing office and hotel reception were very nice, as well as these in the café and wine bar. I saw the beautiful night view of Auckland city, and it is really amazing! After cups of drinks, i wanted to have a meal at orbit restaurant, but i found that their receptionists were very rude, they just shows arrogant. That’s ridiculous! I just wanted to had the last glance during meal, and my friends already noticed me how awful the meal was. So what should they be proud of? Just because so many visitors ll be deceived by the advertisement? Gosh I think I m gonna never go to the restaurant again! Next time when my family and friends come here, I ll only take them to the deck and the coffee lounge, and never book a table at the Orbit.

Nice place with kids. I have been there twice in daytime and once at night time, I recommend night time. Especially, if you go there on full moon day, you could see fantastic view of Auckland and reflection of moon on the sea.

You get a decent view from up the Sky Tower, but I think it’s pretty overpriced, given the Auckland skyline isn’t that impressive, and there’s nothing much up there except some information on the city. Then again, it is one of the countries most recognizable buildings, so could be worth a trip! The restaurant up the top of the tower is delicious!

Viewing the city of Auckland from the top of the Sky Tower, as well as the intrepid adventurers descending at about 55 m.p.h. outside the building, was a real treat. The ascent to the top was swift, and the 360 degree view around the building clear from the slanted floor to ceiling windows surrounding the observation deck. At 1,076 feet high, just 72 feet shorter than Las Vegas’ Stratosphere, the Sky Tower tops the skyline of Auckland, and is the highest building in its hemisphere. For additional cost, a revolving restaurant and a Sky Walk can add to the experience.

La SKY TOWER c’est le principal point de repere quand vous etes dans le CBD d’ Auckland, vous né pouvez pas la louper tellement elle est imposante ! Elle m’a plusieurs fois servi de retrouver mon chemin, meme si le systeme des rues de la ville n’est vraiment pas complique. Je la trouve sans interet de jour, rien de bien original (ce n’est pas la tour Eiffel non plus, COCORICOOOO !). Je né perdrai pas de temps a y monter pour admirer la vue, Auckland ayant des points de vue bien plus interessants hors CBD. Par contre j’ai eu la chance de la voir eclairee, de nuit depuis le ferry pour Waiheke Island et la ca en jette un max !

So you’re in Auckland… sky tower is a must visit. You have to pay to go to the top but there are 2 nice restaurants (one rotates) as well as a 360 bar and 360 degree viewing lounge. If you feel adventurous you can pay to walk outside on a platform clipped into a harness… Then if you are REALLY adventurous you can pay to do a controlled decent from the tower to the ground, about 55 miles per hour… certainly worth it, it’s a thrill! The sky tower has the only casino in Auckland at the base as well as numerous other restaurants and bars at the base.

My wife did the Sky Walk here, we got some discount with one of the pamphlet coupons. With her SkyWalk, I also got free admission to go up to the observation deck, which is actually above where the Skywalk is. So I got to take pictures of her out on the Skywalk from above, and also look out onto the Auckland area — really nice views out to the surrounding hills on the clear day. I could even see down to where they were setting up balloons for the Christmas Parade that day.
She loved her experience — got a one on one trip with a guide who was very good. You are in a harness setup attached to ropes, etc. so it all seemed very safe and secured, but with the sensation of hanging out over the city.
It was certainly expensive, and the pictures were even more, but worth it as she really enjoyed the experience. A very well run operation. I thought this was a lot better than the Sydney tower.

the view from the skytower is spectacular and if you’re not brave enough
to do skyjumping or the skywalk, just watch others doing it!
get there with the FREE sky city shuttle and save the money for the entrance fee ;-) adults 28 $. but its def. worth it!
also the i-​site on the groundfloor is a great stop, if you need any help for bookings around NZ, etc.

Außergewöhnlicher Ausblick. War für mich erstmal eine Überwindung auf den Turm zu gehen, gehört aber meiner Meinung dazu, wenn man Auckland besucht auch den Fernsehturm zu gehen. Gerade der durchsichtige Boden und die Fahrstuhlfahrt haben mir etwas zugesetzt, waren aber auf jeden Fall ihr Geld wert und haben einen einzigartigen Ausblick geboten.
In jedem Fall ein Muss!

Dieser gigantische Turm wurde gerade ⁹⁵⁄₉₆ begonnen in die Luft zu bauen, als ich ein Jahr in Auckland lebte! Freunde berichteten mir dann auch, dass es echt einen Trip up to the Sky wert ist & wirklich genial dort oben war!

Besonders schön, bei Sonnenuntergang!

Ein Pflichtbesuch beim Sightseeing in Auckland/​Neuseeland! Der Sky Tower ist der Fernsehturm von Auckland, er ist stolze 328 Meter hoch.
Aussichtsplattformen gibt es auf 182m, 191m und 220m. Die unterste Aussichtsplattform hat einen Glasboden, welcher einen fantastischen Blick auf Auckland von oben ermöglicht.
Weiters gibt es ein Drehrestaurant und eine Bar, welche sich in 60 min einmal um die eigene Achse drehen.
