I really like the Sitting Duck Café, there are no other cafes or restaurants around, you can side outside and enjoy the lovely views right next to the water and you are literally nearly underneath the harbour bridge. Whenever my sister from London comes to visit we always go here for this very reason, there isn’t anything in London like this place. I have always found the service to be very good and friendly, I really can’t remember a time when I have had bad service. The food is good, not amazing but I would rather be able to come to a place like this and be able to enjoy the location pay decent prices for good portions than have to pay rocket high prices for some fancy place with tiny dishes. They have the standard café breakfast items like scrambled eggs, poached eggs, eggs benedict and a number of yummy lunch dishes available, pastas, curry, fish, fritters, open sandwiches.

Recently I went to have a catch up with Dad. I usually get excited about meals out with dad because, other than enjoying time with him, he pays. And that’s nice. So I was excited about where he would take me. I gotta be honest, I was a little gutted when we turned up to Sitting Duck. Firstly I didn. t even know it existed, which isn’t a bad thing. But from outside it really isn’t that attractive, yes it is situated right on the water, but it’s kind of looking the wrong way. By that I mean back into the marina rather than out over the harbour. But I suppose some people prefer that. Anyway, the food was actually pretty good, and definitely big enough to fill me up. None of this pretentious fingernail size morsels. But, it was a little expensive for what it was, maybe if the décor was bit fancier I would have been happy. The service was really lovely and the woman knew a lot of people by name. A nice place to chill and good coffee, but there are better places near by.

To be honest I never thought I would go to a café like this, simply because of how it looks which is very assumptive and judging a book by it’s cover. However the other day when I was to go sailing with my Dad we came here for breakfast before we set out on the water. I chose a coffee and one of their sammies from the cabinet. I was totally happy with both of them, the coffee was nice and strong and comforting and the sandwich was really tasty! The woman behind the counter was friendly and a pleasure to chat to. I noticed they had heaps of seating and their outdoor part has an excellent view of the marina no matter where you sit which is always nice!

The Sitting Duck occupies a unique location underneath the Auckland harbour bridge, overlooking the Westhaven Marina and beside the yacht clubs of Auckland City. There’s a comfortable outdoor area and some seats inside with big picture windows, so no matter where you sit you’ll see the marina. The décor is a bit dated and the furniture looks like it could have been bought at the Warehouse, functional but not the most glaorous waterside café around. The food is good and the portions a generous. Man-sized I would say. However the prices are quite inflated, considering this is not the flashest spot on the waterfront. I would still come here though if I was very hungry for the large yummy portions.
