We got takeaways from here last night — food for four people, twenty bucks total. And when I say food for four, I mean four dinners plus a bunch of leftovers this morning. God damn that’s cheap. Even in Sandringham, which is not a pricey area, that’s still a massively good deal. Well, that depends on the quality of the food of course. And by and large it stood up pretty well. We got four vegetarian curries(we’re one of those flats) which covered all the vegetarian curry bases — one chick pea, one lentil, one potato, one yoghurt. The lentil one was the nicest, the yoghurt one was the hottest. It also had pakoras in it which is a cool idea but also its downfall. If you love the pakoras from that Hari Krishna place on K’Rd then these ones will be a disappointment. But still overall it was a good feed, and considering what we paid it was an excellent one.

Shubh used to be my favorite place to burn out a hangover. I’d go there, get two samosas($ 1.50 each), a mango lassi then walk back home and collapse on the couch for the rest of the day, happy in the knowledge that a delicious blend of spices and vegetables was tumbling around in my stomach. Unfortunately, I no longer live two houses down, so I have to make do with whatever I can find in the cupboard. I went back to Shubh recently and they have changed quite a bit, with an additional room for dining in. They offer a wide range of curries and deep fried foods, all of which are vegetarian. The prices are great, and the servings big enough that it’s worth taking some home afterwards. You can also buy the curries cold for takeaway, so it’s a good place to stop off on the way home.
