Rain Forest Express

All aboard! This is a very, very cool activity that you can do with your family in the Waitakere Ranges.
An up close and personal with Auckland’s rainforest as the train goes through the bush and tunnels close enough to see the tui and fantail and to almost touch the wetas (eek). My kids loved it.
Don’t forget to pack the camera because the views are stunning over the bush and the Manukau Harbour. You should also pack a picnic for the two hour excursion and plan on having a great day out.
A bit of history about the two hour journey. It takes you over nine bridges and carved 10 tunnels out of rock. The train line was originally constructed when they were building the Upper Nihotupu Dam and is still used for maintenance.
Must do Auckland activity with or without kids.
