Have been here a few times and have mixed results. In two separate occasions they were out of a number of their wines, and in the latter they were out of chocolate syrup for hot drinks as well. However the atmosphere is good, and staff are reasonably friendly and attentive. The food is ok, minus the $ 12 cheese platter(though only paid $ 4 as had $ 8 free in their current loyalty promotion) as got three very small pieces of cheese with over toasted bread and a very small cube of quince paste. Totally not worth it. Their burgers and fries are reasonable and typical of similar style bars.

We came here as a group of five for lunch because we saw the grabone deal — $ 25 for $ 50 worth of food. Upon arrival we got told to find an available table and was seated. We didn’t get water offered but our drink orders were taken. The $ 15 lunch special is reasonable and the food was tasty. The burger was moist. Platter was a bit over priced at $ 49 for a few prawns and olives. The frustration came when we were paying the bill. The waitress said that it was only one per table. However the terms and conditions state one voucher per person. We had three vouchers and asked if she could split it across three tables. She said she had to check with head office. 5 minutes later she came back and said she couldn’t get hold of anyone however«if there was going to be a fuss» then she would honour it. Which they did in the end. You see we weren’t too pleased and would reconsider coming back here for lunch. There were plenty more people in the queue with vouchers, it’s going to be a long night for them debating the vouchers. Overall, nothing against the food — the service, a bit meh.

A group of friends and I meet at this bar each Monday night @ 7pm for the weekly bar quiz. It’s a great friendly night with friends. The quiz is fun, and we usually have a drink or two and occasionally a meal. I fully recommend the Macs Brew Bar quiz night to anyone looking for a great night out on a Monday night. It usually goes from 7 – 9:30pm approximately. Never been any other night but know others who have and they all couldn’t stop raving about this bar. Definitely worth a visit for a or a few or even some

You can’t ever go wrong with a Macs Bar. It always delivers exactly what you’re looking for. Whether you’re after a lazy afternoon drink or a big night out they always get it right and Newmarket Macs Bar is no exception. I’ve been to countless events here. 21sts, parties, hangouts, and have watched countless sports games here. The awesome thing about this bar is that they’ve really captured the chilled out Macs Bar vibe but have still kept it quite upmarket for the Newmarketites. The décor is awesome. I love the crazy wooden wall they have there. Even though it’s a huge bar, they’ve managed to create lots of little corners for your group to escape to. And, wait for it, they have GHDs in the bathrooms! How cool is that. They definitely know their target market. They also do a mean bowl of chips. There’s nothing like digging into those greasy, carby, sticks when you need an energy boost to keep going the whole night.

I find this brew bar very different to the others aesthetically, there is a huge wooden sculpture type thing in the middle of the place with logs piled up on top of each other then a massive tree made out of wood pieces, it’s very cool. There is stuff on every night here, on Monday’s it is quiz night, Tuesday’s it is $ 20 steak night, Wednesday is $ 10 cocktails all night, Thursday is $ 35 Macs Gold pitcher and pizza night, Friday is a live dj, Saturday is $ 6 selected drinks and Sunday kids eat for free. So there’s always something going on here to keep the bar fresh and alive. There’s always a great vibe at this place, as with any Mac’s bar actually. The drinks and food are always great and it is the perfect spot to stop at for lunch after shopping at 277.

I’ve been here for a 21st which ended up being awesome because Op Shop happened to playing a set in the main bar. That was some sweet free entertainment. The other times I’ve come here is for a beer or two with work, and we came for a lunch that ended up being really delicious. the food is pretty expensive for pub food, but it’s tasty. The beers are always cold and like most Mac Brew bars they’ve got quiz night as well. The staff here are usually quite young and are always really friendly and cool. It’s a decent size and it’s always clean, and it’s a really handy location right on Nuffield St in Newmarket.

I assume you’re reading this review for my opinion and in my opinion this is the best Mac’s bar in Auckland. Now pipe down Lion Nathan and let me tell the good people why they should waste their time on you. My gripe about Mac’s bars is that most of the time, they try and play themselves up too much; it’s like shopping in a second-hand store dressed in a 3 piece Armani suit. It’s a fake and forced cool that doesn’t quite fit. Mac’s Brew Bar is on Nuffield Street, a street that takes itself far too seriously anyway, so Mac’s has waltzed into a black tie party, in vintage clothing, swigging a bottle of champers and owning the place. The display shelves made from old drawers and menus made from discarded vinyl covers look good. The fire-wood tree sculpture thing looks good. When the live music fires up and the window walls slide down you know it’s going to be good. Did you know there was a bar called Echo in Newmarket? No, you didn’t, because you came here.

This Mac Brew Bar is quite different to the Quay Street one, louder, a bit more cool actually and the staff are great here. If you want to get together with a group of friends for a night of drinking, sharing some pretty good food and having a great time this is one of the best places you can come in Newmarket. Everyday day there is something different on at Macs too, quiz night, food and drink specials so worth checking out their website to see what is on. There are large tables which make for bigger gatherings and cool interiors which are part of what make Macs bar cool. Perhaps because this is Nuffield Street but Macs Bar is raises the bar on bar standards. Great atmosphere, food(definitely not bar food, they also have vegetarian options available), drinks, everything really and they even have free wifi.
