Go there for amazing ice cream made from organic milk. That is what a friend we were visiting in Auckland had told us. So after going for a 2,5 hours hike on Waiheke island, we stopped by Island Gelato Company even though it had been raining heavily shortly before and it actually was a bit chilly. Still, we were happy we came to this charming little ice cream truck before heading back to the ferry. I had a scoop of the youghurt lemon curd($ 5) which was delicious, very flavourful and had a perfect, creamy texture to it. My friend went for two flavours($ 8) — she had the Waiheke honeycomb along with chocolate orange coconut. I got to try both and they were also really great. We soon discovered that one of her choices was a local favourite — while we sat down to enjoy our ice cream, several families stopped by and almost every second person seemed to go for the Waiheke Honeycomb.

The blueberry crumble was delightful. Some of the best ice cream I’ve had in a long time. I grabbed a scoop just before walking down to the beach. The staff was very attentive and pleasant.

We realize people can have bad days(especially on busy days) and that one employee does not represent the entire company. We decided to give you a try again last night and had a very pleasant experience. The gelato was still as good as we remembered. The gentlemen(Geoff?) behind the counter was very nice and the atmosphere was much more at easy.

After a nice long walk up to Stony Batter on a warm spring day, we could not resist trying the local gelato. It’s housed in a shipping container on the main drag on Oneroa. The selection was not vast, those on offer were a bit different from the run of the mill varieties. I had the mango and lime, which was very enjoyable. While we sat licking away, the queue seemed never to end, such a good sign.

Operating out of a brightly decorated shipping container and serving artisan gelato, Allpress coffee and Best Ugly bagels, Island Gelato Company really stands out on the main strip in Oneroa Village on Waiheke Island. I had read consistently great reviews about this gelato place and when the opportunity rose to visit Waiheke, I was very excited. What stood out the most was definitely the service — the owners were welcoming and the two young girls behind the counter were friendly and chatty. Another great thing was of course, the gelato. We got to try most of them one and they serve a variety of flavours including honeycomb, chocolate mint, boysenberry, cookies and cream, lemon meringue, banana/maple/walnut and last but not least, salted caramel with white chocolate– the girls said this flavour always sells out first. And I can see why! It is a mix of sweet, salty and creamy. What more could you ask for in a gelato?! It was melt in your mouth, absolutely delicious. I would happily come back just for their salted caramel and white chocolate gelato — it really was out of this world! So if you’re visiting Waiheke and are craving a sweet treat, definitely check out Island Gelato Company — you won’t be disappointed!

No choice but to give this a 5… Some of the best gelato I’ve ever had, and we’ve had a lot of authentic gelato in Italy. And the setting was so chilled, it’s a bit pricey, but perfection is… I’d been bemoaning the lack of passion fruit available on the island, then had the passion fruit gelato, and proclaimed it a sacrifice worth making!

First heard of this little gem from the Denizen– and have been meaning to get a taste since. A very cute little artisan crafted gelato store set within an opening/food-truck sort of style shipping container found in Oneroa village. They also have coffee and Best Ugly bagles if you are feeling for those with or without gelato. So many choices of flavours– with eccentric combinations as well as classics to suit any palette. Got to try a few taste testers– blood orange and mandarin & thai basil which were very interesting. Had to get a double scoop instead of the single– of the Waiheke honeycomb and Banana maple walnut which were both delicious. Got to try friend’s Chocolate, Affogato & roast almond as well as Salted caramel with white chocolate. Saw they also had pink lemonade, cool combo chocolate, orange, coconut as well as salted coconut & passionfruit amongst lemon fresh, passionfruit, fruits of the forest. Trying to figure out what amaretto was which was put together with boysenberry and what lemon passion yogurt might taste like. Definitely coming back to attempt to try these all, even just a bite of each and every. Great for summertime or any time really if we’re being honest– must check it out, worth the queue!

What a gem! This was such a pleasant stop on the way back to the car. I had two scoop but want to go back for ten scoops! Next time I’ll have the Choc, orange and coconut flavour. A single scoop is $ 5NZD. Coffee and bagels are also served here. Service was fast and friendly. What a gem.
