The Cornwall Park School Fair is an eagerly anticipated annual event for all lovers of white elephant stalls, home made fudge, plant stalls, and sausage sizzles. Like all the best school fairs, this one caters to all and sundry — there’s plenty of games happening for the kids, as well as lots of stalls catering for them where they can get amped up on sugary treats. In terms of things for the grown ups, there’s several classrooms full of piles of second hand clothes, a big fabric and haberdashery stall, and one of the most dangerous white elephant stalls I’ve ever come across — it’s situated around a drained swimming pool, so there’s not much room for items around the edges, and people definitely get very pushy here so the prospect of being pushed into the empty pool whilst jostling over who gets to the rimu bedside cabinet for $ 20 certainly adds a certain frisson to the whole proceedings. It’s easily one of the biggest school fairs in Auckland, and even has its own website, which shows what an event it is.
