Usually hotel bars are pretty dreary affairs, located in awkward uninspired spaces. Attica Bar at the Mecure is one of Auckland’s hidden gems. Although the hotel is nothing to rave about, the bar is great and offers some of the best views of the city and harbor — it’s particularly spectacular at night when you can see the city lit up. Drinks are reasonably priced and a reasonable range of beers and wine. Perfect for a pre-​dinner drink.

We had our pre dinner drinks there. At one point we were the only patrons in the entire bar, considering it’s in a busy downtown hotel surprised us.
The views of downtown are a real draw card, it has lots of potential to be place to be seen in. The bar was quite small, and only seemed to stock the usual beers and wine’s with the odd unusual beer. If only they stocked a good selection some of the local boutique beers they could be a major draw card.
The waitress on duty did not inspire us and just seemed glad for our custom. What a shame for a prime location…

I ended up a here a few weeks back when a few of us turned up about 20minutes too late to make use of Food Alley’s $ 6.50 cocktails (which are the best, obviously). We didn’t feel like going to a «proper» bar so ended up at Attica. I was surprised about how OK it was, expecting a slightly uninspiring hotel bar. The décor is slightly mid-​200s «cool minimalistic hotel» but it’s not a huge place, and it’s mostly windows so it’s all fine. I only had a glass of wine so can’t comment on anything else.
The view from the bar is to Queen St and up to Albert Park, which was hosting the Lantern Festival the night we were there so it was all very pretty.
It’s fine here — I’d go back for a quiet drink some other time, especially if I’m not in the mood for a big raucous place.

this place is awful. Okay, the views are nice but their cocktails make me want to vomit and the food is over priced, cheap nasty crap. I wouldn’t take anyone here, unless you are staying at the hotel it doesn’t make sense to invest actual effort to come here, it’s simply not rewarding. The cocktail I had was piña colada inspired but the guy put Midori in it… it had this off green hue and the taste made me gag. Melon coconut milk, ew. I had a few sips then didn’t touch it for the rest of the night. Ah water, my old friend. The food was an ugly array of supposed «gourmet» treats (pâté and bread, mini beef sliders… some other things)…not terrible impressive and it took a long time to come (as with the drinks). Come here at your own risk.

I went to Attica Bar with my boyfriend for a quiet night out. You know it was one of those Fridays when you just want to have a hot date that is in a romantic bar. I was craving quality time and attention and I got it at Attica Bar. The ambiance is romantic, the music is nice and soft, the lights are dimmed and the cocktails and wines are delicious.
The bar is beautiful and is located on the top level of the Mercure Hotel. It overlooks the Auckland Harbour. The tapas menu serves delicious options which are perfect with a glass of wine.

Often we think of hotels as being places for travelers when really many of our Auckland hotels feature great restaurants and bars that may get overlooked when thinking of a place to dine or drink. The Attica Bar is one such place, located on the top floor of the Mercure hotel on Customs Street, this bar is a rare gem. If you are after a really quiet place either for a date or to discuss business then this would be the place for it.
The views are fantastic and this was where I spent New Years to watch the fireworks, fantastic view. The bar features comfortable upholstered chairs that are so comfortable you’ll stay for a couple of drinks, that and the staff are nice and the music is tasteful. If you’re after something to eat, there are tapas available and even though this is a bar they do have a coffee machine for the caffeine addicts out there. Attica Bar has a wonderful atmosphere, one you should experience if you haven’t yet.
