I had to leave the bar to go get cash out asked the bouncers if it’s ok and said it was all ok and will let me back in when coming back the told me no I can’t come in. They ruined my night

Friday November 21, 2015. The bouncer of this bar treated me not only like a piece of trash, but a peasant as well. I came to the bar because I had heard good things. I had a couple beers with dinner and stood in line for 15 minutes. No worries. When it was my turn to check in, he told me to step aside. I thought he was going to check my purse, but instead he told me I wasn’t welcome and if I wanted to come back I had to wait for 20 minutes. At first, I thought i was turned away bc it was at capacity. 20 minutes later, I was shunned away again because he told me I wasn’t allowed back. What did I do? This place is a horrible bar that I would NEVER recommend. Don’t do it — racist and asshole staff. Made me feel horrible about myself for no reason.

Cool place and good music. No door charge (: My first impression when I walked in was, ehh it’s pretty small. It got a little hard to walk around when it got jammed packed around midnight. The drinks were a little pricey, I paid $ 10 for a glass of beer. They have a vast selection of drinks. The bartenders are pleasant and put on a good show while making your drink. I was very glad to see the coat check by the bathroom, I HATE CARRYING MY STUFF AROUND. Would definitely come here again

Well nice nightclub. Pretty crowd and normally good music. Slightly selective but normally the parties are pretty great they do also themes night so you have times to times concerts and singers. First britomart country club and the hit that club just few meters away

Every Wednesday 1885 hosts Jazz in the Basement and it is truly a treasure trove of pure awesome. Impeccable wine, beer, whiskey and cocktail menu as well as an array of leather love seats to settle into as the live jazz washes over you. And let it wash, and wash and wash all over you. Seems like the upstairs is very different from the basement and likewise with the weekday vs the weekend. Besides the live jazz the Rogue Society gin martini with anchovy stuffed olive was hands down one of the best I’ve had in Auckland. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I even loved the mailboxes of paper towels in the loo… it’s all in the details!

1885 is a mix of everything in one location. It’s a bar, it’s a restaurant and it’s a club. These all seem to blend together quite well at 1885. Interesting bar which hosts some expensive beverages and dark décor to keep you guessing what time it is. I must admit this is a great place to start out your night in town. Fairly casual and easy going, plus they spin some decent tracks. Location is good as it’s right next door to Britomart Country Club which is also fairly decent (earlier on in your night). Get to 1885 at a decent time if you don’t wish to queue for ages.

Every now and again I like to hit the city and go big, really big. I plan my night out with mates, and it is always a success; we go to the right places at the right time. But ever since 1885 opened, it has changed the game plan a bit, purely because we don’t want to be left on the outside looking in.
This is the kind of bar where you need to do a bit of homework before you attend. If there’s an event on at Vector, then you need to be there before the show ends, otherwise you’re not going to get in.
So needless to say 1885 is popular, and you need to dress up to get in, and you’d want to anyway, as you’ll be rubbing shoulders with the rich and beautiful. Who am I kidding, if you hang out at 1885, you are the rich and beautiful.

One of the better clubs in the Britomart area — memorably described by a friend of mine as the «whitest» club in Auckland. 1885 is hidden away in an old brick building, and has one of the trendiest, swankiest fit-​outs inside — it’s seriously slick. I’d probably count myself as being under the average age of patrons here — so a slightly older crowd than usual, and slightly more chilled out. That’s all fine by me seeing as I’m not great with 18 year-​olds trying too hard to be rowdy — or maybe I’m just a grumpy old man! Best part about 1885 is the music — they mix up old and new, crowd-​pleasers with some slightly more left-​field selections. Last time there it was pleasantly ambient/​trancey — excellent.

1885 is a great bar and club if you can get past the snobbery of a few of it’s patrons. It is an awesome place to go for a drink and nibbles before a night out. It is also a great place to check out when you are keen for a boogie!
I won’t lie before I check out any clubs, my first stop is 1885. The music selection is varied which makes it even more amazing. I love it when the dj plays an old school track that takes me on a trip down memory lane. Additionally they are different events happening at 1885 such as live gigs and djs, the cover charge doesn’t usually exceed $ 10.

1885 is the perfect place to come and get down on the dance floor. There’s always a great crowd and the kind of people inside does vary from time to time.
My most memorable night at 1885 was one featuring a group of girls out for a hen’s night. They were all dressed up and were literally the life of the party. Everyone wanted to join in with their good-​time vibes! The bar tenders here seem pretty onto it so ordering drinks isn’t the hassle is can be at some popular Auckland joints.
As Ruby said there is usually an older crowd here… I even think sometimes they turn people away at the door saying it’s R20 on a certain night.
The only bother about coming here is the line that often snakes alongside the building wall and even around the corner. But if you’re in no rush and happy to wait and pay a bit of a door charge then you won’t be disappointed when you get inside!
