This fun and crazy place may look empty now, but it’s early. Wait a few hours and the walls vibrate with salsa dancing and the chairs are alive with happy people. Hubby found this place while looking for a hidden local joint and kudos to him for doing a great job. We found the people to be super nice, the food is typical for local joints with a full menu of Mexican favorites and the alcohol is CHEAP! The bar is huge and there are several main seating areas. One of the areas has a stage and dance floor where they have local bands, dancing and karaōke. The other section has the big bar and lots of tables. The back section has a foosball table and seating at smaller tables. One thing that really impressed me was the manager. I was sitting at the bar alone while Hubby was wandering and looking at stuff when I realized I had forgotten my headphones at the hotel. The manager saw me looking for them and brought me a fabulous Bose headset to use and suggested I look up a Mexican singer(can’t remember her name now) that has the same style of dancing and singing as would be found at Rene’s that night. He spoke very little English(and my Spanish is limited), but he really took care of me while I was there. The food was good and the kitchen is famous for the dogs who live there. You read that right — there are dogs in the kitchen and a sign on the door warning you not to let them escape. If you ask nicely(which I did) they will let them out for some love and food. They’re adorable!!! Rene’s is a great local stop for anyone wanting to see the best of the area but, as with most places in the Baja, bring cash(dollars or pesos) because they don’t accept cards. And don’t forget a doggy biscuit or two!

This is a happening spot on weekend nights… a real local hang out with a slightly older crowd. Good selection of drinks and decent live music.
