Tommy Le Baker has always been this cool spot I enjoyed in Sentul. It’s very quiet and cozy, tucked in the middle of Sentul, off Jalan Ipoh. This shop kind of focuses on breads and stuff to they have quite few things to offer. First off, they are the only shop in this area that opens at 8am(besides the mamak that is) so it which means — they are going to serve you for breakfast! Tommy Le Baker has amazing things like: — Sandwiches(To die for! With awesome Ingredients!) — Bread(Tons of options) — Toasts(To start off your day) — Quiche(Amazing stuff!) — Tarts — Cakes — Coffee — Cheese — Tea - What strike me the most out of everything they have are the cheese and the types of cheese. I am a lover of cheese so I know how to appreciate the different tastes and textures. I can live with eating just cheese & crackers with baby tomatoes on the side. Not a problem at all!

How can this place go forgotten? Their bread and sandwiches are simply too amazing to be ignored. Located inside the streets of Jalan Ipoh, Tommy Le Baker is a little bakery store that offers amazing coffee and wholesome artisan bread baked with fresh ingredients. I’ve tried their smoked salmon and sandwich and at the the first bike, my eyes twinkled at how amazing it taste. Fragrant soft smoked salmon matched with a slightly tangy spread and oven baked crunchy whole meal bread. It was such a pleasant meal, especially when I was having it with iced cold cappuccino during a hot afternoon. One thing to note though, they do not have a lot of seatings for their client as they don’t have a full fledged restaurant. The tables and wooden stools are placed in front of the baker for you to have a quickie meal and to sit there longer wouldn’t be too pleasant. Note to come during a less peak hour(maybe not breakfast time) if you would like to have a seat, and the afternoon can be rather hot and warm. If you would prefer a takeaway, simply just get some sandwhich and coffee to enjoy a delightful wholesome meal later at the office or at home.

This is one of the bakeries you’d find that is treating baking seriously. Having interviewed Tommy(le Baker!) himself before, I have come to learn that he is very precise about every step of the bread making. I was truly amazed by how he was explaining to me that the bread really have it’s own life — the yeast in it that go through fermentation — and we either as baker or the person who eats it, must respect it. He shared about how he think his own baking business should not be too commercialized and he will always hold on to his very own principles in baking. Hearing about his stories, you would actually appreciate the bread even more every time that you eat them. Working nearby, Tommy le Baker has already become one of the places that I frequent. Sometimes I will come here for lunch and sometimes I will drop by after lunch to grab a baguette or sourdough. Oh, have I mentioned, their sourdough is really really good here, must try if you are a fan of sourdough yourself. They will recommend to you not to slice your bread when you buy it, as they want to keep it the freshest for you. However, if you really really want it cut, make your request ahead. If you have sweet tooth like me as well, please try their walnut tart, sweet but not too sweet. Tender and you can really taste the freshness of the walnuts used. They put in a rather generous amount of walnuts too, so even though it might be a bit expensive, I think it’s all worth it. Most of their pastries here are really good too and they serve London Pride here — the beer that I have missed so much after i return from the U.K. So, if you are a fan of all the above, do drop by and grab a baguette for lunch or just some desserts! And, if you have the chance, do say hi to Tommy, he is a very friendly person :)
