Despite having lived in Ampang for close to five years I have only been in this store twice. The reason being that I cannot stand hypermarkets. Too crowded, too many aisles, too few cash registers open… too much of a headache for me. Recently though I have been trying to shop at hypermarkets rather than the usual small supermarkets I go to as things have really gone up in price. This Tesco Extra is located along Jalan Pandan Prima in the direction towards Ampang. It is a huge place and houses not just the Tesco hypermarket but restaurants like Kluang Station, small boutiques, a pharmacy and many little kiosks selling essential oil and hair accessories among others. Parking is ample but once I came on a weekend and it was very very full. They do have reserved spots for the disabled and families with children but those are few and far between. Seriously, there’s less than 10 of those spots and literally hundreds of shoppers here. Not enough. Anyway, this Tesco is HUGE. you can buy everything here from fruits and veggies to hairdryers to clothes and even baby car seats. Literally everything under one roof. So that’s the positive. The negative is that there are just too many people. It feels like you are in a zoo of shoppers. I prefer my grocery shopping experience to be peaceful. Also, as everyone seems to be shopping here once a month and buying cartfuls of rice, meat and eggs, prepare to wait for ages at the checkout lane. They have some comfy massage chairs for adults and coin-operated rides for kids which come in handy after a long day of shopping. Mommy gets a massage and kiddo rides in an airplane.
