30% of the menu wasn’t available. Plus the waitress couldn’t offer some suggestions. I ended up getting something what I didn’t expect. Thank God I had a yummy dragon fruit margarita to fill my sorrow, but I had to leave the restaurant hungry.

Good margaritas but terrible service. They brought my friend’s order wrong, then wanted to charge her for the sauce she requested in order to make the food tolerable…

La Mexicana is tucked inside Terrace Hock Choon which houses a few restaurants. The set up is very authentic from the colourful tiles to the music playing in the backdrop. Pork is served on the menu and I tried their pork tacos which became a favourite of mine. The chilli wasn’t too spicy for me fortunately but had just the right amount of kick. Sitting inside the restaurant somehow transports you to Mexico as the owner and chef are both Mexicans who strive to bring authenticity to the restaurant. There is an open air complimentary carpark available opposite the building so that shouldn’t be a hassle.

This is the best Mexican food I have found in KL outside dinner at my Mexican friend’s house. That being said, the bar is not set exceptionally high in KL. I have been here some nights and the food has been exceptional. I love that most dishes come in a portion of three or more(four if you ask). It’s a great place to hang out outside and enjoy a nice evening. The margaritas are excellent and the Tiger beers are RM15. I do have a couple of complaints. I find the portions to be quite small. If you are in a big group it is good for sharing but by yourself or with two the bill adds up. The other complaint is that every once and a while the quality slips. I think when you go on the busy days it is ok. I tend to end up here on Mondays and maybe they have a less experienced chef on those days.

Easily the best Mexican restaurant in town, La Mexicana is tucked away in Terrace in Hock Choon, along Jalan Ampang. The restaurant is in a decent size, beautifully decorated with colorful tiles in a true Mexican fashion. The Mexican fare is a real triumph. Everything from cevinche, pork taco, chicken enchiladas to Poblano chillis are all winners from the menu. And of course, your meal wouldn’t be complete without a glass of Margarita. Mexican food couldn’t get any authentic than La Mexicana.

Ahhh the things I dream about every time I leave this restaurant. I think La Mexicana is easily one of the best restaurants in KL. It’s definitely the best Mexican! When you enter, it feels like you’ve entered a big, colourful party. There are all these funky mirrors and colours everywhere and the staff are really friendly, so it’s a good first impression. The food is AMAZING! I super love the pork crackling served with a guacamole dip. Which by the way, is the best guacamole I’ve ever tried here. The chef, a nice Mexican lady, once told me that she makes the guacamole on order which is the secret to why it’s so fresh. The panela cheese is something else, and you must try the crepes with cajeta sauce. Cajeta is something like a Mexican version of dulce le leche and it’s like a dream. Make sure you order one of the tequilas too. It’s not a trip to a Mexican restaurant if there’s no tequila involved, right?
