Hon Kee Porrige is located at Petaling Street and they have been there since 1959. It is indeed very famous and one of the must try food in Petaling Street. It is only open in the morning and everything is usually sold out by afternoon. Since it is street food, the surrounding and cleanliness isn’t the best but still bearable to sit and enjoy the food. I got to try their chicken porridge and you tiao. The reason why I like the porridge over here is because the taste is quite bland but still has flavour. They also gave a generous amount of chicken, chopped scallion and you tiao. The you tiao is pretty good, not too oily. It would be the best option to eat it early in the morning when the sun isn’t fully up yet because you might sweat profusely indulging a hot bowl of porridge with Malaysia’s sunny weather. Besides that they also sell Chee Cheong Fun. It is exactly the same with the one at Madras Lane but the portion is slightly bigger.

Looking for the famous porridge? Here you can try their porridge and they claimed that they are the original porridge that has more than 70 years history — well the matter of fact, according to my mom when she was a little girl, this shop doesn’t exist, so it’s up to you to believe it! Competition is tense with their rival that sells chu cheong fun next door. Wonder why would they want to compete in the red ocean? I’d tried their porridge and was slightly taken aback because of the price. For a bowl of porridge with some slices of raw fish, I was charged RM10. It is really TOOEXPENSIVE! The lady boss who constantly asking for customers is very flashy with a thick make up. You can spot her easily. And if you are up for a chu cheong fun or porridge, prepare to pay more!

My dad introduced this place to me — and ever since then, I have been bringing friends here for their porridge! My favorite is the porridge with their homemade pork balls(RM5). If you are here for the first time, definitely go for this! I tried their porridge with century egg and pork(RM5) the other day — it was okay but I still prefer their handmade pork balls. They also other types of porridge, by the way, such as the one with fish(my dad likes this) and also frog porridge, if you are up for it. My friend had their chee cheong fun with their ‘secret recipe’ sauce — and she loved it! Service is good — the lady was really nice and friendly. I have been here many times — and I will definitely keep coming here for their porridge!

A midst streets of stalls and stalls of imitation clothes, handbags and accessories in Petaling Street, street walkers and shoppers can stop by Hon Kee stall for a satisfying bowl of porridge and a plate of chee cheong fun. Hon Kee is a family run stall which specialises in porridge and chee cheong fun and the current owner is now the third generation since its original founder. The salted egg with pork porridge was served with sesame oil, and pepper and soy sauce if you wish to add on to enhance the flavours. The congee is rich and dense, no broken rice neither is it too watery. The portion of pork and salted egg to congee is proportionate to the serving of porridge. One bowl of this can be bought at RM5. There are also other types of porridge, its infamous Raw Fish Slice Porridge(RM6.50) and Fresh Frog Porridge(RM15). So, to those who are up to tickle their taste buds, do try out these exotic varieties. The Chee Cheong Fun is definitely something wonderful. It’s smooth, it’s silky, it’s non-sticky and bottom line, it’s yummy. There are two sauce choices; salty and sweet and salty. Again, the ratio of sauce to chee cheong fun is proportionate. You can opt for small(RM3), medium(RM4) or large(RM5). The stall operates from 4am till 2.30pm.
