BackHome KL

A lovely hostel. The staff are kind and friendly– but not in an overbearing way. They’ll help you if you ask, but don’t seem to go out of their way to be sociable or help travellers mingle. Whilst I had a great experience, the lack of organised activities could mean that solo travellers feel a little isolated; you really need to make things happen yourself. The subway station is very close by and it’s only a few stops to both KLCC and Sentral. Plus Chinatown and Central Market are a 10 min walk.”

I can’t think of anything bad to say about BackHome. I had such a great time here because the hostel is designed to feel like a college dorm. The layout definitely helps to foster a community: I met two couples and we immediately made plans together to rockclimb and visit Melaka.
As for the planned events that BackHome offers, DO them! I think it’s a great way to see the city and be introduced to the food, especially if it’s your first time. Just be sure to check the events and their availabilities as they are not offered everyday!
Lastly, aircon and security. These two are essential to any good hostel and BackHome knocks them both out of the park. If you’re doing your research like I was, just book it now.

I first discovered this backpackers place before I moved to Petaling Jaya, when I have to travel to KL on business. I have since been a regular customer at BackHome KL, and its always my first choice of accommodation whenever I have to stay overnight at the city. Backpacker’s hostels are often known for drawbacks when it comes to cleanliness, safety and comfort. This is not the case at all with BackHome; there is nothing to worry about besides making sure you reserve early, because with such impeccable service and environment, their vacancies fill up very quickly.
There are so much deserving praises I could give this place. It is conveniently located within 5 minutes walking distance from Masjid Jamek LRT station. The cleanliness of their dorms and bathrooms are top-​notch. The beds are super comfy, and their hot showers are amazing! There are no wobbly furniture store Double Decker beds here; all their beds are built with iron frames attached to the wall, so even if you got the top bunker, you don’t have to worry about disturbing the one sleeping on the lower bunker when you climbed up. Their courtyard, surrounded by high walls, is truly an oasis amidst the noisy and polluted streets of KL.
Plus, the staffs are so helpful and knowledgeable. I’ve learned to find my way around KL and find some of the best street food place not noted in any travel guide, thanks to them.
