This is the second time I stayed at The Metropolitan and I must say, it’s a great option for Tokyo! Pros: –Steps away from the Ikebukuro station –Close to lots of shops and restaurants, sunshine city is about a 15 minute walk away –They have an airport shuttle that will take you to Narita in about 90 minutes for about 34 dollars –Some rooms have a good view, particularly the higher floors Cons: –You have to be very clear about it from when you put in the booking, otherwise they might assign you a room on a smoking floor, which smells like death –The English level of the staff is very low for a 4 star hotel. Lots of effort to get even the very basic questions across. –Services in general are rather inflexible. We needed the comforter changed one night because of a spill situation and they were unable to provide a second comforter. Upon request a blanket was provided but it took a bit of convincing. I think a hotel to have some contingency bedding is not an unreasonable expectation. –some rooms don’t have great views, our room during this stay looked straight at a wall. –late check in at 3pm, we got there at around 1:30pm but they said no options for early check in were possible.

The restaurant on the first floor is a great place for for small and large groups with a wide variety of Japanese and international dishes. We went there twice already and had the dinner buffet. The roast beef and Chinese food are highly recommended.

This hotel is awesome! So centrally located and so convenient for access to the train station! We will definitely look into staying here again. We usually stay at Tokyo Park Hotel in Shinbashi, but went during Cherry Blossom season and everything was pretty much booked. I used to book the hotel, and didn’t have any problems! It was a little more expensive than Tokyo Park, which I found to be a little surprising as Tokyo Park is a pretty fancy(in my books) hotel. If you stay in the Superior rooms, the price includes Wi-Fi. If not, you get access to internet but not Wi-Fi. We stayed in a Superior Queen Room, which was a good size for a Japanese hotel. We had a beautiful view(our room was on the 19th floor), and everything abou thte hotel was pretty amazing… except the cab fare from the airport to hotel, which was pretty unavoidable because we were in no mood to catch the limobus or train to our hotel after our flight, and at 1030 pm. The hotel is a block away from the train station and located near many convenience stores. The easiest way to get to the train station is through the back exit/entrance and head straight down that road. There’s a Family Mart right there, and 7 – 11 and Lawsons down the street, if you exit through the main entrance. It is within walking distance to Sunshine City and many department stores and parks. We tried to navigate with maps, but found the maps to take us in circles, so we just did some exploring and found our own ways to get places. **If you are interested in the Kit Kat store, this is a perfect place to stay so you can get in line early!
