I’ve been to New Orleans’ original shop several times but this Ikebukuro branch is the place where I first met Café du Monde and its beignet more than 20 years ago. Since then I have been a big fan of its café au lait. New Orleans is a bit far from here, but smell of beignet and sugar on it always reminds me of the River of Mississippi and Dixieland Jazz playing at Louis Armstrong Memorial Park and Jackson Square.

I’ve never been to the New Orleans location but this one has solid coffee and beignets. Since almost every Vietnamese restaurant in the States serves Café Du Monde coffee, my taste buds were already familiar. I would get the regular beignets if you aren’t feeling like something TOO sweet. They’re like crispy donuts. I got the strawberry cream cheese version which was a bit too much for my taste.
