They serve set lunch with eel, tempura, sushi and chicken. But if you’re here try the eel. Half eel with pickles, soup and egg(Japanese omelet) is 2200 yen with set lunch. Yikes. My classmates and I ate here because our Professor claimed that this restaurant served the best unagi(freshwater eel) in Japan. While skimming the menu, we discovered that the price in unagi increased from $ 18 to $ 37. According to the Japan Times newspaper, the«availability [of eel] has gone down steeply.» Thus, the prices for freshwater eel have increased dramatically. Although the price for the(cheapest) eel set was incredibly high, we relied on our Professor’s word and committed ourselves to order it. The presentation of the unagi set was very nice. It came with tsukemono(pickled vegetables), soup, and a box filled with rice and unagi. However, it was not worth $ 37. The unagi was soft, but it tasted similar to the canned unagi that someone could buy at Don Quiote. In addition, there were hidden bones in my unagi that caused discomfort in my throat when I accidentally swallowed them. At least the service was great? But seriously, I would not recommend ordering the eel for such a high price. If it was $ 25, I think it would be worth it. My recommendation is that the restaurant should lower its prices or add another dish to the set. Overall, the current set was not satisfactory. I have not tried other dishes from this place, but this restaurant is known for its unagi.
