* Nice niboshi broth * I had heard good things about the ramen here, so figured it was worth a trip to Koenji to check it out. The menu board outside gave a straightforward set of choices, which you then purchase a ticket for from the vending machine right inside the door. I ordered the niboshi ramen(790 yen) and a side of gyoza(280 yen). After purchasing the ticket you give it to the chef behind the counter and wait for a seat. He asked if I wanted a small or large portion of noodles(same price). I opted for large — I was hungry! The gyoza were the first to arrive. The skin was delicate, the filling well seasoned and moist, and one side of the skin was nicely crisped. A very good start! The ramen arrived and I instantly caught a sniff of the niboshi. What a delicious smell! And the taste confirmed — the broth had a nice strong niboshi flavouring which didn’t overpower but blended well with the other ingredients. The chasu looked a bit dry upon first glance, but looks can be deceiving. It was incredibly moist and tender. The noodles themselves were bouncy and toothsome. Perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. The egg and other fillings balanced everything out well. Overall a great bowl of ramen!
