You can find some tasty balls, I mean a classic Japanese treat called takoyaki, right here. Takoyaki is ball shaped, made of wheat flour batter, and filled with a few ingredients, with diced octopus being the star. Then, they are brushed with the takoyaki sauce and topped with green laver and dried bonito shavings. With an open kitchen, you can watch them make these fresh! The restaurant itself is kind of small, and there are only bar tables so everyone was standing while enjoying their takoyaki. Most people ordered a full order of 8 takoyaki, which was about 600 yen(~$ 5). Treat yourself and eat these as a snack or as a meal!

Not bad for a quick snack during a busy day shopping. They have eat in tables but standing only. We were pretty tired from walking around so probably would have enjoyed our meal more if there was some seating. The food was ok, nothing amazing. The staff are really friendly and efficient though.

3.5 solid stars – nothing TOO special, but nevertheless hit the spot for late night munchies. Located in the heart of Shinjuku, this was the perfect night snacks if you’re looking for late night munchies! Affordable and delicious! We ordered the following: 1) Takoyaki 2) Potstickers aka Gyoza 3) Egg onion dish My favorite dish was the Gyozas. The skin was perfect – not too thick or thin, and the meat inside was very well seasoned. My least favorite was the egg dish – tasted like something I could’ve easily made at home. Total for 2 ppl was under $ 20US. We didn’t order drinks(although there was a pretty interesting drink – blue drink, forgot the name of it). Not much sitting room; There are about 5 – 6 cocktail tables and the restaurant seats about 20 ppl max.

Tasty balls! Wait. did I just say that? A must snack to try when you are in the Shinjuku area. They make them fresh and right in front of you. It’s a small shop with bar tables where you can stand to eat. I’m not a huge fan of bonito flakes but these were mighty tasty. These are classic Japanese treats which can have octopus in it also. Wash it down with a glass of beer and you got yourself a great Takoyaki! Tip: Save space because there are quite a few places to eat around this area.

Who says you have to shell out big money for dinner in Shinjuku? Had delicious takoyaki for about $ 5.50. For those who are unfamiliar: these are savory doughballs filled with squid then topped with different sauces. Try four for about 3 bucks, a full serving for just over 5 bucks, or one of the combo meals with soda, beer or booze. Perfect on a rainy day. The place is very casual. A few standing tables inside, or order take away from the outside window.

Excellent Takoyaki. Gindaco is a chain store but as I’ve learned chains in Japan isn’t like McDonalds or Burger King, this small store is totally worth getting in line for. A little crunchy and creamy inside. Octopus are cooked perfectly. Just watch your tongues, these are made fresh and it is piping hot! No seafoody briny taste. Mad good! Great to fill you up as a snack or even as a meal if you are budget friendly. About ¥600 for an order of 8 balls. Another must have when in Tokyo.
