Jean-Paul Hevin is well known in the chocolate world, and it is one of the best in my opinion. I have been to the Taipei and Paris locations, and I must say the qualities are consistent across all three locations. This is not necessarily true even for some of the other chocolate royalties. The sit down area is pretty small, and there can be a short line waiting to get in. The shop is located next door. Seating can be difficult to find around the mall food store area in Japan, and this place provides a nice place to relax. I was thinking about the chocolate tart set, but decided to order the Chocolate Framboise and iced chocolate drink. It can be difficult to decide since everything looked so good. For the Framboise, the raspberry jam paired well with the smooth dark chocolate. The only negative was the truffles that came with the cake. I just didn’t find the powder appealing(sugar powder?). This is my second visit to this location, and I will definitely return next time I am in Tokyo.

Jean Paul Hevin is a top-notch chocolate in France, dubbed as the«Chocolate Magician». This Tokyo branch is located within Shinjuku’s Isetan. As a chocolate lover, I was super psyched to try their hot chocolate, «Parisian». AMBIANCE: They have a tiny seating space and there is no place to sit and wait outside. Their quiet and high-class atmosphere will surely relieve your stress from the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku Station. DRINKS: If you arrive before 3pm, they serve Hot chocolate combos; hot chocolate with brioche and hot chocolate with two brinis. They will provide you with two servings of hot chocolate in a delicate silver pot. Though this is my personal opinion, the hot chocolate was too heavy for me as it is probably made with 80% cacao and 20% milk. Compared to the hot chocolate I had at the City Bakery in NY, Parisian is your best bet if you are looking for a rich, hot drink. Not the best drink to have in the midsummer nightmarish humidity. The tiramisu frappé dessert is made of mascarpone, ice and chocolate. I did not taste a hint of mascarpine, and the ice was not crushed enough so I had to crunch the ice away. Not my favorite dessert. If you ever walk by this café, consider it a good opportunity to try out this World Class chocolate store. It doesn’t hurt to try!
