The Intercommunication Center is a museum of electronic art. It was created by the NTT Corporation, the large, previously government-owned national telephone company of Japan. The ICC includes Internet-connected art, interactive works, video and sound art. There is only one other dedicated media art museum of this scale in the world, ZKM. There is an anechoic chamber for one: a sound proof room with sound absorbing foam on every surface. You can sign up for a time slot to experience sound works insulated from the outside world. They have a collection of Japanese and Western video art. Most of their library is online now. The work can be sublime, or it can have a tech aesthetic. It’s good for children as well as people who follow the art world closely. Unlike many museums, you touch the work to interact with it. It has the feel in a way of a science museum, but the work is much more beautiful. Tokyo is so lovely with a myriad of experiences to choose. If you are interested in new media, check it! A very unusual museum that puts Japanese artists using media and technology in context with artists all over the world working in new media.
