Japan doesn’t do breakfast like the Americans do. It’s the one meal where we notoriously dominate everyone in. We have fields of bacon, oceans of eggs, and mountains of pancakes. Our hash browns and grits can block out the sun. I won’t even throw in the waffles, sausages of freedom toast that can stretch from here to the moon. With that said, Denny’s in Japan is actually pretty darn good. My wife and I went there twice during our stay in Shinjuku and enjoyed it thoroughly both times. Japan has incorporated American, French, and other foreign breakfast foods into their mix to give us a creative melting pot of delicious foods. One of the dishes I had there was a New Zealand style dish with rice and Japanese tea on the side. I highly recommend Denny’s to anyone who is interested in trying something new. As I said, it’s not like the American Denny’s.

This is not your typical American Denny’s. We came here mainly because my 1 yr old has a hard time eating. I was impressed with one of their kid’s menu item. It has a bit of everything with a big old hamburger patty smothered in gravy. My little one ate her biggest meal in Japan. We would give this place 5 stars but we didn’t like how the smoking room doesn’t have doors and the whole place smells like smoke.

The service was many times better than any US Denny’s I’ve been to. There is also a convenient call button when something is needed. We were in the non-smoking section and it did still smell like smoke. Not fresh direct smoke but old smoke baked into the walls. The food… well, I was there for breakfast at 5am with a 4 year old. She kinda liked the cake-like pokemon themed pancakes with a mini scoop of ice cream and syrup. Unbelievably I think it was even too sweet for her. My eggs, bacon, sausage, and salad was true to the small Japanese portions. Although the toast was Texas sized. I am not sure I would have wanted more than what was given. Anyway, it worked for what we needed at that time of the morning. Maybe I’ll try the yogurt and granola next time we are up that early.

This isn’t the location I went to, but Denny’s in Japan is COMPLETELY different from America. Heck, sometimes they even serve RAMEN. They have smoking/non-smoking sections, and a button whenever assistance is needed. We went to grub here for dinner, and I got me an Omurice.(Omelette rice). Bf got this beef plate. I also wanted to go here specifically for their delicious looking pancakes that I saw. We got it for dessert, and it was the 3 stacks chocolate pancakes. As far as the omurice, it was decently good. Too much watery eggs for me. didn’t like drinking it lol. Pancakes were small and a little dry. The toppings made it pretty tasty, though!

Immaculate, friendly, fast, delicious and cheap. A nice size breakfast set with latte for just $ 6.50 in downtown Tokyo?! Amazing. I wish Denny’s in America was half this good.
