I’d spent over 4 weeks in Japan and felt ready to explore non Japanese food to see if it’s as good as people say. I’ve read that Italian and French food here are better than that in the home countries. After doing some online research I found a recent Japan Times article highlighting the best homemade pasta in Tokyo and this was one of three restaurants on that list. Overall I’d say the pasta was good, but this is by SF standards. It may be one of the best places in Tokyo but wouldn’t make the top 10 in SF. I also wouldn’t say it was better than the best pasta I’ve had in Italy. It’s a great place to try, however, if you find yourself craving pasta while here. They let you combine any pasta with any sauce and order half portions so you can taste several varieties. I had three tonight: fettuccine w truffles and prosciutto, pappardelle with bolognese, and cacio e pepe. My favorite was the fettuccine by far, but only because the sauce was amazing. The actual pastas were about the same to me. They all had somewhat thick starchy textures, but I prefer silky delicate pastas. I tried the tiramisu for dessert. It was average as nothing stood out as being particularly good or bad. There are so many Italian restaurants in Tokyo. There must be places better than this for pasta.
