We went there for my birthday. I was impressed with the chef giving lot of care to grill the food perfectly. Chicken dishes are way to go, especially chicken meatball is bomb. Enoki mushroom wrapped with bacon is another my favorite. Sign not visible from the Main Street so you need to pay attention to find this place. Perfect for night out with friends and drink! Definitely recommended.

Alright, I really should have written this review up a loooooonnnnng time ago but I guess I secretly wanted to just keep this place to myself since it is that good. I have been coming to Fuku ever since I first moved to Japan in 2010. I may have come before then on my short visits, but I can’t quite remember. Regardless, the chefs know us well now because we are the«gaijin» guys(foreigners) that always eat a lot here. On average, we consume about 20 – 25 skewer sticks between the two of us… which is considered pretty glutinous by japan standards.(Normally I hear my friends eat 8 – 10 each) But it’s okay! Fuku is one of those places you can keep going to because they don’t make you feel guilty that you order exorbitant amounts of chicken and it is really so good that each new skewer we order is just as exciting as the last, and likewise, each visit is just as memorable as the time before. Last month alone, we went four times…:p I know, excessive… but we love it and it is my favorite year round restaurant that I love going to without having to think twice! Also, the place is considered affordable by japanese standards(240−300ish per skewer for the usual yakitori items: neginiku, tebasaki, tsukune, nankotsu, etc) which is part of the reason you will like it but the food itself is so perfectly grilled with the right amount of salt and no extra char. The meat is usually very juicy and never rare(less you order the ala carte chicken sashimi). And what is nice as well is that it is consistent every time we visit. Personal favorites to order are: Cheese: bacon wrapped japanese bell pepper with melted japanese Camembert Tomato: bacon wrapped tomato slices Tsukune: chicken meatballs with added crunch from the finely minced cartilage Tebasaki: middle chicken wings butterflied flat and two pieces: p Tanuki: chicken meatball stuffed into a shiitake mushroom Neginiku: chicken thigh and leeks grilled side by side Ninniku: roasted garlic with a miso sauce on top Sesseri: chicken neck with finely chopped leeks/scallion on top Kaki(winter seasonal): Grilled Oysters… so good. It is on their seasonal menu. But order them if you like Oysters. Finish off with a yaki onigiri(grilled rice ball) or share a Hokkaido buttered potato. On a side note, we normally do not order anything but the kushiyaki but they do have nice salads to start with and yaki onigiri, ochazuke and other items to end with. The place is definitely a neighborhood joint but with growing popularity from the expat/foreigners(for both the quality of food and English menu) — it is getting harder to just walk in and is best to book a table in advance. Service is good as you would expect from Japan and the environment clean and neighborhood cosy(approx 16 – 18 counter seats around the grill and perhaps 4 tables of 4). Anyway, go and enjoy. It won’t break the bank and your stomach will thank you for the treat later. Also, it’s a nice and easy little neighborhood to get to in the city. Worth the trip, every time!
