(4.5÷5 Stars) Unilocal 100 Challenge 2015 — 56⁄100 Japan is an earthquake-prone country, so it was quite natural that when Nepal was hit by an earthquake recently, immediate efforts would be taken to offer aid and assistance. Unilocal Japan quickly decided to do an emergency fund raising event, and to me, having been through the huge earthquake in 2011, it was an obvious and immediate decision to join this event. The disaster of March 2011 is still fresh in our minds, and a very strong quake in the Tokyo area last weekend was yet another reminder for awareness and preventative action. Hats off to Unilocal for being proactive in rallying the community! This event was a collaboration among NPO, Nepal-related organizations and Unilocal Japan to present an opportunity to learn more about the food, culture and people of Nepal though a fun event. In addition to sampling Nepalese food and drinks, we heard presentations about relief efforts and earthquake/disaster awareness that were all very informative. Being a Unilocal event, of course there were numerous opportunities to network among new and veteran Unilocalers. A mobile app check-in got you a Unilocal shot glass, and you could try winning a taste of exclusive«shochu» liquor by playing the Unilocal gumball machine — ¥500 a shot, literally.(I won twice — woot!) Highlights: + Collaboration w/NPO organizations/Nepal related organizations and Unilocal + Learning about Nepal culture, delicious food/drinks, informative presentations + Learning about Japan earthquake/disaster preparedness facts — Japan is global risk factor #1 — yikes! + Over 70 attendees, including Unilocal staff + Meeting new/veteran Unilocalers — LOTS of photos posted here and on the Facebook Event page + Unilocal schwag for checking in with the Unilocal mobile app + Generous sharing: Friends, knowledge, donations We also had opportunity to meet the new Unilocal CMs from other cities: Shuhei from Osaka, Mari from Kyoto and Takuya from Fukuoka. Welcome to Tokyo and thanks for being so super Unilocaly! All things considered, I’m rating this five stars with a caveat that 4.5 is my intention. Reasons for the minus half star were: — Great attendance but over capacity for the venue — Air-con couldn’t keep up(can you say hot, hot, HOT?) — Shoes overflowed the entrance; elevator was tiny and a bit creepy — Ran out of some food and drinks However, those were minor compared to the great efforts of the organizers — BIGTHANKS to them, all Unilocalers who attended and of course, the Unilocal Japan team. Another leading example of the teamwork and local spirit that makes Unilocal a fun, social and useful active community!
