Easily the best coffee in Tokyo to drink the Starbucks blues away! It’s hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Takeshita Dori, but totally worth the effort. The coffee is amazing and worth going to in and of itself. But the grilled sandwiches are a highlight themselves. I tried the mac ‘n cheese sandwich, which blew my mind — a fantastic variation on a grilled cheese sandwich. The atmosphere is alternative but relaxing. Even when it’s busy, it maintains a great vibe. You won’t be disappointed!

Two days in a row, my top favorite café ranking is updated! How have I never been to this café? is the least that I could say about this place. My friend loves this place, and Tomo also recommended this place to me. As I finally came here for the first time, I am sold out by how cool Deus Ex Machina is. Hidden in the backstreets of Harajuku(where the coolest part of the city usually is), Deus Ex is this large, black, ware-house looking building. On the second floor is a showroom for their motorcycles. First floor is where the baristas are serving great lattes, with great latte art. There’s a lot of sofas in this café, and many people enjoy sitting outside. Go down stairs to check out their basement, greeting you with a bar, collection of surfboards(that you can buy), a projector thats playing a movie, an art gallery, and a bunch of sofas so you can chill and do work. The latte was really good, and the place has free wifi and outlets near the walls. As a result, I had a really productive day here. The store is open till 11pm, so trust me when I say that I’ll be back to do work & eat their sandwiches! This would be my top recommendation for coffee shops if youre in the Harajuku area.

I’m from Venice and my fiancée and I made a point to come here on our very short trip to Shibuya and Harajuku. We were glad that we did. Their staff were very friendly. The barista’s latte skills were on point and A for artistry. The store is really a gem; 3 stories. My fiancée got a local hat and a t-shirt. I played with the men’s cologne(intoxicating), the hip sunglasses which could totally be unisex and took photos of the awesome bar I wish the Venice store had. The lattes were fairly priced and as expected the clothing is a little higher priced but the quality and style warrant it. We enjoyed chillen in the café downstairs while drinking our coffee and listening to the hip music. It was a fun stop and the area is super hip as well particularly for men’s shopping.

Hipsters, surf boards, and motorcycles. Makes sense, right? At least it does to this artsy coffee shop in Harajuku. Deus is the kind of coffee shop that suits just about anyone. If you’re into third wave coffee, they have you covered. Like art? Plenty to go around. Have a motorcycle and need caffeine while browsing for your latest leathers? Strangely, that can happen. And what surfer can rise first thing in the morning for the pre-dawn set without a cup of joe to power the way. All this and more is what Deus does on the regular, and they do it in a pretty non-contrived way as well. One would think colliding this many cultures into one setting might result horribly, but it’s a very comfortable setting with friendly people, outdoor seating, nice coffee drinks and adult libations, and enough food to curb most hunger pangs. If I were a local, chances are I’d be here all the time.

who can not like that place? and they even offer almond milk — that’s rare in Tokyo(most of the places just offer soy). friendly staff with great skills. community table in the middle and wish it would have been warm enough to sit outside. food looked good too, portions are quite big.

Hard to fault this place. Friendly staff, amazing coffee, great food and one of the coolest interiors of a café in Tokyo!
