Located just off the south shopping street of shimokitazawa, this place makes an excellent option if you are looking for that hole-in-the-wall japanese eatery experience. For direction, i followed this blog and got there just fine. They serve mostly one thing here — okonomiyaki. You can google what that is if you don’t know already, but I can assure you it is DELICIOUS. There are also other side dishes but i didn’t bother So, you can either order a pre-set okonomiyaki or customize your own with topping. For each okonomiyaki, you pick soba or udon as the noodle base. If you don’t know japanese, i will list some of the most popular toppings below. They vary in prices but if i remember correctly it’s between 100 – 200 yen. Try to sit on the counter if you can. There are only 8 seats there, and this is where you can watch the action as it happens! The chef will cook and mix your okonomiyaki for you according to what you ordered, and would push it to the counter area in front of you when they’re done so the okonomiyaki stays warm as you eat it off the counter’s hot plate. Love it! Here are the list of toppings that i can remember and how to pronounce them and translations イカ — ika — squid ホタテ — hotate — scallop エビ — ebi — shrimp タコ — tako — octopus もち — mochi チーズ — chiizu — cheese ネギ — negi — spring onion シソ — shiso — japanese basil レタス — retasu — lettuce I ordered ika and negi for my toppings, and the bill came out to be ¥1190.
