Good enough for Japanese but a little sad for Mexican and Americans. Overall good environment and yet the price is kind of pricy what can you expect for Mexican food in Japan. Would I come here again? …

A Burrito in Kyoto?! You bet! On a 2 week adventure in Japan, I was getting a little tired of fish-heads and needed some comfort food. As a La Jolla(California) native, this place was calling my name. The food was as very good. The fish taco was awesome,(where they found corn tortillas, I may never know) the chips and salsa were fresh, and the La Jolla burrito was the Bomb! Not all the food was completely authentic, the beef fajitas tasted a little like teriyaki, the guacamole had shisho leaves, and the Mexican rice was white rice with a sprinkle of spices. But it didn’t matter, we were so happy to be eating some Mexican food in Japan. Hell they even had a line of Mexican craft beer I can’t find in California! I give it 4-stars for such quality, so far away from Mexico. Hell, I couldn’t get Mexican this good in Florida! Service was great, and the place looked like a quality Mexican joint found anywhere in San Diego. Well done!

We’ve been traveling in Japan for 1.5 weeks, and as much as we love Japanese cuisine, we wanted a change of pace. I was expecting a Japanized version of Californian/Mexican food, but it was very legit(of Californized Mexican food!). I’m not sure if they make their own tortillas, but it was really good. The guacamole was excellent, and the serve was spectacular and friendly. I wanted to ask them how they pronounce«La Jolla» as a Japanese person, but didn’t get a chance to… haha. Highly recommended!

I dream of this place. La Jolla is my favorite restaurant in town but don’t come here super hungry because it is definitely slow food. The owner hand crafts everything by himself and it is worth the wait. It is some of the best Cal-Mex food I’ve ever had and I’ve lived in Southern California before. The first day we got in to Kyoto I was already on my way to La Jolla for a house margarita and homemade gauc. I’ll definitely be back again before we leave town.

As good as we get at home in Orange County, California. Kei, who I believe is the owner/chef, studied fresh, authentic Mexican food while he was staying in Costa Mesa and surfing at local beaches. If you know the local authentic Mexican food places around Costa Mesa, you already know the quality you will get at La Jolla. Nothing slimy or funny tasting hear. Every bite is perfect. They even fly in fresh tortillas made with real maza. Check it out.

Pretty much the only place in Kyoto where you can get a burrito. And turns out to be a good one as well. Quesadillas are also not to be missed.

We had been traveling Japan with our two teenage boys for a week and a half. Loving the sushi, ramen and everything else. One nigh my wife said, «I need something familiar» She is from Mexico City, I found«La Jolla», named after my town I live in, what could be better. The food ironically enough was better than any Mexican Restaurant in La Jolla right now, and the margaritas were, balanced and not too sweet, I really needed some tequila I think. The food was great! Google map it!

Sooo good!(And not«just for Japan«) When we were getting a little tired of Japanese food, this was the perfect place to have found. Small location, but clean and fun décor. The chicken burrito was amazing, white meat grilled chicken, delish sauces… just really tasty. We also had chips and salsa, actually tortilla chips served with red and green salsa– green salsa was my favorite. Nachos were great… Decent portion, white meat grilled chicken again, all the good stuff. Queso fondito was excellent, not to greasy and still pretty gooey. Quesadilla was good as well. Definitely worth your time if you’re looking for Mexican food.

Everything here is surprisingly authentic. It’s fantastic and fresh. I’m really a little stunned. The Queso Fundito is nothing short of EPIC! The Quesadillas are spot on perfect, as so are the burritos and nachos. This is the best Mexican in Kyoto by far.

Maybe my expectations were too high? La Jolla is decent, but it didn’t quite curb my burrito craving. I came with a friend on a weekday evening. We shared an order of chips and guac– average. If you have a chips and guac craving, this will solve that. I got a chicken burrito. The texture was perfect– mushy refried beans, juicy chunks of chicken, and fresh lettuce. However, my burrito was very much lacking on the flavor side. I was full at the end, but my brain wasn’t satisfied. I don’t usually use hot sauce, but nearing the end of the burrito, I couldn’t take it anymore and splashed on some Tapatio. Instantly better; I wish I had put some on sooner. My friend’s beef and zucchini squash quesadilla was awesome, but oddly overly salty? In short, I was overwhelmed. However, because I’m a firm believer in second chances(and I know at some point I’ll be craving tacos.), I’ll probably be back some time. Also, everyone should make sure to look up at the Daily Specials board above the cashier/kitchen area to see if anything catches their eye.
