Has the best charcoal grilled meat and the best craft beers. The atmosphere is stylish, cool and comfy, and you could use it to drink or have dinner with your friends, with your colleges, and could be perfect to use it after you’ve had your dinner too. And it is super reasonable!

An American style pay at the counter style bar in Osaka. «The Good Thing» about this bar in Minami-Senba is that it is super casual and laid back. It is not pretentious and they don’t try to be «too American». As many of you know, this type of a cash bar is quite uncommon in Japan, while it is everywhere in the U.S. It is one of those communal hangout places where you just drop in and hangout with friends or strangers without breaking your wallet. BEER: Although they are known for their big lineup of craft beer, it is NOT on tap. There is a fridge next to the counter with a nice selection of bottled craft beers. Choose the one you like and bring it to the counter. They do carry beer on draft, but it is one of those boring kinds; but it is fairly cheap. At first, I was going to punish them for not carrying craft beer on tap, but I realized that this was probably by design. They want to keep the atmosphere fun and casual, but draft craft beers is expensive, hence make the place less casual. Ise Kadoya Brewery’s Pale Ale, one of my favorites, was only 650 Yen per bottle. Most places sell this for about 1200 Yen per pint. FOOD: BBQ pulled pork, jerk chicken, homemade sausage, pork spare ribs, chili beans, etc. Nice solid selection of bar food. BUDGET: About 2000 Yen. A couple of drink and a few food dishes. CONCLUSION: I really wished that The Good Thing had a branch in Tokyo. I bet most of the food review sites would not give 5 stars to The Good Thing. Foodies(and craft beer fans alike) would likely punish them for some of their imperfections. For me, when I look at this place in the entirety, it is a unique place that I would love to hangout at if I lived in Osaka.
