As good an Okonimiyaki as anywhere. Very friendly owner behind the grill. If you are new to this type of food, don’t go for the ones with noodles! The original and i think the best is straight up Okonimiyaki with extra black sauce. Don’t forget to put the dried bonito flakes on top, sometimes the toppings are in a box nearby.

The owner(like others have said), is extremely kind, hospitable, and made us feel at home. He described to us how he made his speciality, the origin of it from his upbringing, and even gave us treats to take home with us when leaving. The noodle patty is unique and worth a try. I got mine with squid, and my boyfriend got one with shrimp… both really good! It’s fun watching him make it, and eating with a mini spatula. And don’t expect to eat and leave quickly. He does everything himself, so it may take some time to get your food.

Not sure I can add much more than all the prior reviews, but I can certainly validate all the 5 star ones! I love the history of this place, the dark alley to find it and the amazing dinner was one of the best food experiences we have had in all of our Japan travels. Highly recommend checking this place out. Go early! Don’t be in a hurry! However, we went late and were the last ones to finish! That’s fun too, but you might have to wait. Hope you have the chance that we did to visit with the owner/proprietor. What an amazing and humble man he is! We will be back in a year or so! Domo Arigato

Osaka is known for okonomiyaki so Unilocal led us here. If you have an unlimited JR pass, you can take the JR loop here and it’s about a 5 minute walk from the station. It’s located in an older and less populated part of town but you can trust Google maps to guide you. The restaurant has been in existence since 1959, first opened by the owner’s mom. It’s pretty awesome that there’s so much history here and that the family has been perfecting their recipe and techniques for almost 60 years! We tried the mixed(shrimp, calamari, pork) okonomiyaki and the family recipe which added noodles and rice into the batter. Both were delicious and because you’re eating it directly off the griddle, the food stays hot and most importantly, the outside stays slightly crispy! The owner showed us the proper way to eat it with a small spatula. The spatula has sharp edges so don’t eat too fast. The shop seats 10 people so service may be able during busy hours. He is just one man making all the food! We arrived at 2pm on a Friday and there was only one other person. Alcohol is also served here.

The owner, like everyone else has already talked about, was really hospitable and friendly. Despite having just recovered from a cold, he tried his best to make conversation. When we arrived, there were already three groups there that were non-local. The owner obviously has had a lot of tourists visit his shop; he has a board plastered with foreign currency. The food was great, and he taught us how to eat the«osaka style» of eating the modanyaki and okonomiyaki – directly from the spatula. The place was a little difficult to find, but once you locate the shopping street, it should be the 3rd right. Look a bit upwards and you will see a small, lighted signboard with the words«ちとせ» on it. Be prepared that you might need to wait, the place only has a bar that could seat five, and an additional two table seats that can seat up to 6 people.

Saw the reviews on Unilocal before I came to Osaka and wanted to try this place. I am so glad that Unilocal and trip advisor got this one right. THISISTHEBESTOKONOMIYAKI I have ever had!!! The Chef was super kind and gracious. He can do it all! Buys his own ingredients himself, cooks and runs the place alone(but will soon change because he hired someone who will be working Friday ^_^). He speaks English and is very friendly. I wish I could give him a hug because this place was soooo damn good! If you ever go to Osaka, please try this place! It is a MUST!!! とてもおいしい!!!!!

This was the best meal we’ve had so far in Japan. The food was excellent but the host of this one man show was the star. It felt more like we were guests in his home than at a restaurant and he calmly and carefully cooked for all of us while chatting with us and the other diners. It is a tiny space with two tables for 4 people each and place for 4 people at the counter. Sit at the bar if you want to enjoy the chef’s most excellent company and wit and watch him cook. Cannot recommend enough.

If the food wasn’t 5 star quality, the owner sure is! I found this place with the help of other Unilocalers, though I do question how anyone found this place. Its hidden in one of the alleys in a shopping center that was completely dead when I came upon it! Outside the shop, I was greated by a friendly obasan in English as she biked away then a cat who continued to hang at the shop the entire time I was there. Yeah, you can tell its a friendly place! The owner was very nice, greeting me in Japanese and then he started talking to me in English, which I have missed during my ventures. He gave me recommendations on where to go as he cooked and tried to teach me Japanese! Now, for the food. I ordered a pork modan yaki(just means there are noodles) and it was cheaper than any okonomiyaki I had in hiroshima. I watched him prepare it with a huge slab of pork, a sufficient amount of noodles, and enough mayo and sauce to get my mouth watering! When it was done, he told me Osaka locals ate only with the spatula so I gave it a shot. Ignoring my mess, it was the best okonomiyaki Ive had during my entire visit! I thought this would be my laat one, but I already wanted another when I left the shop. Its not too try, full of flavor, and a hardy meal! Why can’t I eat this all day?! The shop owner also made sure to give me a box of matcha chocolate on my way out. Hes a great guy and the best okonomiyaki chef! If you eat okonomiyaki at touristy places, you’re missing out!

Combine a one-man show restaurant in a teeny restaurant off the beaten path naturally proves to be one of the best restaurant experiences ever. Although the food isn’t mindblowing, the humble experience of being crammed in a small facility with grease-stained walls only decades of cooking can create, makes it so special. Highly, highly recommended.

We found this place courtesy of other Unilocalers and had to try it out since it’s a signature dish in Osaka. This is a mom and pop shop. The owner spoke great English(a plus!) and was super friendly. He was very helpful in making recommendations on what we should get. Everything is yummy on the menu! We got a variety of items and all were delightful! #win It turns out his mother opened the shop back in the 50s and he took over after she suffered a stroke. Sad story, but so much history behind this small storefront. At the end, he even gifted us a box of matcha cookies to bid adieu. How sweet! We asked to take a photo with him and he kindly agreed! If you’re in town, I highly suggest popping over for a meal. It’s well worth the experience! Happy Eating!

Fantastic okonomiyaki! The chef was extremely kind and the food was even better. The place is small, sits 12 total. It has an atmosphere that you would want and expect from a fantastic food establishment. The prices were also great(under 800 yen a meal).

This place is amazingly good! I was not a fan of okonomiyaki at all till tonight. The chef briefly explained to me okonomiyaki and his modan Yaki then proceeds to cook someone’s food to show me while I was still contemplating my choices. I must add that the chef is the kindest chef I have ever met that spoke English very well. I was more than convinced after seeing him cook I must have some. I chose the modan yaki beef and squid mix and I was not disappointed! There was so much flavor, texture, and amount to eat and enjoy! I can’t not help but HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone that visits Osaka — you will not regret it!

The Best Okonomiyaki ever. U have to go there if u r supposed to be near there. The store is cozy n feels like real Japanese restaurant as I saw comics. U will be able to see how to cook Okonomiyaki right in front of the large fan like my uploaded photo.

The chef(and likely owner?) was immensely friendly as soon as we came in. An English menu was available, and the chef spoke a fair amount as well. The food was absolutely amazing, and for a great price!!! We had okonomiyaki at Chibo(on dotonbori) the night before, and it was much better here at Chitose. To make it even better, the owner caught up with us after we’d left to ensure we received a box of complimentary chocolate.
