After spending a week in Japan I was looking for a break from ramen and sushi and we came upon this place after visiting the deer park. I found what I was looking for in the Margherita pizza. Crispy thin crust with some good chew, fresh mozzarella cheese and basil, and homemade tomato sauce. Simply delicious and simply done.

This is a solid choice if you need a break from Japanese food. They have pizza, pasta, small plates, and sweet desserts. They also have a good drink menu and make a lot of cocktails. English menus are available. Service is friendly. Previous reviewers mentioned it was hard to find. The café must have read the reviews and made improvements as there was excellent signage showing the way to the café.

This is what many people would probably categorize as «safe food». It’s decently priced, generally tasty and has predictably efficient service. great for families looking for an easy meal. If one is looking for a more unique dining experience, all you need to do is walk down the street and look for where the locals are supping. Nothing negative to say here, overall a very positive experience; but nothing that special either.

Followed the Unilocal lead — great find! Although the main dishes here are pizza, which is not really authentic Japanese they did put an interesting twist on some dishes. I had the seafood pizza which was covered with squid and shell fish with Japanese mayonnaise. My wife had the pizza with sweet pickles from Nara. We were both very happy with our choices. I also have to admit that this place makes a pretty good thin crust pizza and cappuccino even by Italian standards. Ambiance and service were great. Place was a bit tucked away, but the description by a fellow Unilocaler made it easy to find.

This is a god send for any Americans visiting the Nara park for deer. Super friendly staff that spoke english and the food was so good. The chicken curry was am excellent way to start the meal. Then the pork spare ribs were one of the best I’ve ever had. So delicious that it just fell off the bone. It seemed more like a braised short ribs than an oven baked spare ribs. I definitely recommend that for anyone craving meat. And their pizza uses a naan bread as their base which I thought was really cool Anne super delicious. Grab a drink and chill while enjoying some super relaxing music, very mellow :)

Mellow Café is easy to miss. It’s off one of the main shopping streets near Nara Kintetsu Station. It’s located beside a Doutor coffee shop. Mellow Café serves various Italian foods, some with a Japanese twist. We started off with a sampler plate of appetizers. I can’t say what everything was but included a quiche, prosciutto, and fish. Our other starters include Caprese salad and a mini salad, both were tasty. For mains, we had Narazuke Pizza and Keema Omu Raisu. The Narazuke pizza was fantastic. It was simple but the flavour was very rich and savoury. The Narazuke topping complemented the flavour so well. The Keema Omu Raisu was also great. The rice was nice and fluffy and the combination with the curry had more punch that a typical Japanese curry. All in all, a great restaurant. Fantastic pizza and not too expensive. Ask for the English menu if you can’t read Japanese.

Really nice place with some western food(like pizza from a stone baking oven). The menu is in english and the food is very nice, although their sizes are not too large(but it is also not expensive). A cosy place with nice music and a long list of cocktails. It is also relative large for a japanese café/bar.
