You might have been to «Ippudo» in NY — It’s one of the most successful Ramen chain in Japan and has 40+ branches in Japan. It’s now getting widely recognized outside Japan — has branches in NY, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Taiwan, Sydney, Shanghai… it’s everywhere! This«Soba COMBOWATANABE» is part of their lineup, placing a unique focus on Japanese traditional soba(not Ramen!) by making it very unconventional! It’s completely different from usual, traditional Soba you would expect at Japanese Soba places in Japan. It’s not quite Soba anymore, but it’s not Ramen either. And, as you can see, their most popular menu is the«dip-and-eat» style Soba with lemon and a mountain of cilantro! I guess they got that idea from Vietnamese Phở and it actually goes with Soba too. If you are not a big fan of cilantro — Please don’t worry and they got other Soba dishes as well or you can simply order it without cilantro. They have a few different types of soup and each of them has a distinct flavor, being very different from conventional Soba. Meanwhile, it’s got a nice, little«bar» kind feel to it for dinner hours, so you can sit there and relax with a few drinks before having the noodles if you like. The location is not too convenient(from my shopping point of view) but is close from the stations and is accesible. Highly recommend you go check it out if you are a noodle person.
